Default Interested in Some Minor Tweaks

Hello friends. I have a 2003 IS300 and I am interested in making some minor tweaks that would increase performance. But, the amount of stuff out there is kind of overwhelming so I am looking for some advice. I read the noob guide at my.is, but even that was a little over my head (and seemed kind of outdated).

I have stock everything and I'm interested in spending maybe a few hundred dollars just get a couple extra horsepower. Ideally, I would like to increase my MPG by a couple, but I don't know if that's possible.

Anyway, I know these posts are kind of annoying for the vets, but any help you guys could provide would be appreciated.

Hey welcome to modding. You may have some problems with emissions living in Cali. I would recommend upgrading the intake or intake tube, than just replacing the headers and y-pipe. Just these mods will give you enough good sound (but not annoying) and improve gas mileage by keeping the stock exhaust. I would have offered you my header but it sold yesterday.

The above mentioned mods are a great start. Just like dsouthmia said though Cali can be nit picky with their moddification control so make sure that you think about that when considering modifications.

The best, eco-friendly, and car-friendly mod you can do for your car is tuning, even if its stock, you will notice a performance difference from a standalone on a stock car with a slight sacrifice of mpg, but so you know, intake/header/exhaust will also affect your mpg, so if you are concerned for that, then modding will not be beneficial to you.

Standalones are expensive, but seeing that you are in Cali, you are limited to what you can do because of your state's law. I wouldn't see a problem with the above mentioned recommendation.

Based on the links above and some further research, I am looking at this http://www.l-tunedparts.com/product/?id=2853

Any advantages/disadvantages to this as something to start with?

You will notice a slight increase in performance with that mod (response to accelerator). Since its technically a cool air setup, your car will not run as good as if it were a cold air (away from the engine) but I'm not sure how the above intake is designed. Be sure to use a good filter. I hear so much positive reviews from Green filters, but more from a generally speaking aspect and not specific to the is300.
