Just got my first Lexus. 2004 IS, 89K, cat-back, intake, nice Pioneer DVD/NAVI 6.1'' screen

Definitely needs new tires and maybe looking to get some headers.

wheels are 215/45-17, i've heard a lot of good things about Potenza RE760 sports and Falken tires in general.


Any recommendations?

had them on my 2005 mustang gt for two sets and loved them!
pushed 378rwhp and 460rwtq and held up really well
and handled great around corners in the rain, always felt very safe in the car no matter the weather, and when it snowed in TN last year i was outdoing rangers and f150s everywhere lol there was so many people in ditches and i had no problems
i had 295/35/18 and 255/45/18 but im sure they make them in your size

and tread looks really aggressive, smooth ride, best tire ive ever owned!

Look into Hankook Ventus V12's. Best bang for your buck, best overall tires.

best tire i think you can buy, had these and Nitto 555 and liked both but there were my favorites!! ^^

Never had an issue with my Nitto Neo Gens. They're supposedly able to withstand negative camber up to a few degrees too, and they stretch well if you're into that sorta thing.

what kind of budget are you on? I am rocking the Firestone made Primewell PZ900 and they are great. I have dealt with some big rain recently and on the highway at 75 did not have any issues. they are quiet, tred is sporty design, have a 60k mile warranty, and when I corner hard they hold every time,,, granted I am not drifting or something but a nice round-a-bout on ramp at around 50-60 is fine.

my budget is $500 on tires. What about Falken Ziex 912s? My friend says those are really legit.

And what about ideal PSI for tires on an IS? Or does it depend on the tires?

Lastly what about headers? Is it even worth it or should I just worry about maintenance at this point?

recommended psi is on on the body next to the seats once you open your driver door. iirc, 35-40?

i just replace mine, with nexen n5000, $80 a pop. happy camper, no need for fancy tires, stock car and daily use.

I work at tires plus here in fl I sell the 760 pz900 and 912 some one mentions the v12 as well, I have 760 sports on mine love them the 900 is not the best but they r cheap and reliable ( the the pz900 is made by giddy not necessarily firestones tire FYI) falkens r soft wear quickly but awesome for the price and the ventus I like but that work better for like aftermarket wheels ur just rockin stocks go with the pz or falken imo

beautiful tire, and will handle anything you throw at them! Dragstrip on nitrous, to auto-x, to heavy flooding, to a few inches of snow. and the tread is real deep and they last a while! plus they look awesome!

well i guess what people haven't been doing is asking what type of tire you are looking for?

Do you drive in snow, any track use, do you drive like a granny or drive it like you stole it? Do you care if the tires last 10k miles or 50k miles?

Also another factor that nobody thinks about until its too late is... do you care how the tire rides and how quiet the tire is?

Depending on your answers different tires will fit your needs. Currently some of the best All season tires are the Continenta Extreme Contact DWS, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus, and the Potenza RE960 A/S PP.
-i have personally tried all 3 of those in this car but none were satisfying for me.

I ended up with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Its a little above your budget but i tell u these things are great. They corner like the car is on rails, has a smooth ride, and is quiet on all surfaces. Not saying these are the "best" but they are worth looking at (they are the replacement for the venerable Michelin Pilot Sport PS2) which come on M3, M5, Ferraris, Porsches, and just about any car worth it.

Now... heres some alternatives to the High Performance Michelins, Continental Extreme Contact DW, Hankook Ventus V12, Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position, Good Year F1 Asymetric.

For $500 i think your best bet are the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo since most of the other ones are gonna put you around the 700-800 per set of 4.
