issues with older IS's
Thinking about getting an IS300 and I am wondering how these cars are holding up in the snow and rust belt areas. Some car design are more prone to rusting than others. How is the IS. Anybody had to redo brake or fuel lines because of rust. What about gas tanks, radiators, etc? For you guys that are in areas that use a lot of salt do you find things like caliper pins seize up badly in these cars.
Anything else that I should look out for in terms of premature wear or expensive repair items.

i know there are a bunch of guys from Canada on this site and should chime in soon... i have not read anything on this site or my.is about rust problems. i came from a honda where you are bound to get honda cancer in the rear quarters. have had no problem with my car besides the stock rims pitting out.

My is300 spent 130k miles up north before I got my hands on it. Nothing you mentioned was a problem. I re did my brake calipers and they were not bad at all. The differential had alot of rust on it but nothing bad, the exhaust hanger that holds it by the tip rusts, the drain holes in the trunk get a little rust on them but everything I have mentioned is very minor. I am restoring mine now so I have been behind almost every panel. I was even able to get all the OEM exhaust bolts off with out problem

Yea I'm in the midwest. I bought my car in chicago and it was pretty dirty, salt stains EVERYWHERE but it's in good hands. Really just the tranny and diff and some heat sheilds is all that was rusty but it's all surface. I plan to paint all these things. My girlfriends moms car has 130k on hers and no rust at all. You shouldn't have a problem as long as you wash and wax it regularly. All rust can be prevented!

It's good to hear that your cars are relatively rust free. Living here in Canada, I know difficult it is to keep a car from rusting. I have, however been reasonably sucessful with my 98gs400 which sees regular winter duty and is still looking as good as a car much newer.
I get my cars oil sprayed and of course wash and wax regularily.
