The ES is in virtually perfect shape - few minor dings from the years, no rust, new tires/brakes/front bearings and a few other minor things. Looking at the build sheet, I'm pretty sure is is the base es300.

I'm pretty sure the IS is an automatic and know nothing more than that. I'm going to check out the car sometime this week.

Background story - family down the street is moving to England and needs to sell everything. He said that if I sold my car to CarMax and gave him the check, I could have the IS. Yes, both cars are free and clear and I know the owner of the IS quite well. (no risk of a scam etc...)

Yes.

I find the es300 pretty ugly (no offense). The is300 engine is pretty bullet proof as long as you as do the proper care. My car is sitting around 180k and runs smoother than my parents car that is at 70k.

They are great cars, look great, fun to drive, smooth, and quiet.

I think you would get less $$ from carmax for the ES.
He is ripping himself off since you'll probably only get like $3,000 for it.
But the IS.. actually, probably about the same.
I'm not pro, and don't know exact numbers but you can check kbb.com
Know what the kbb trade in value is before you bring it to dealership so they don't try to offer you $1000 less than it's worth (because they are sneaky and will try it!!)

Also, see what they want at the dealership for trade in, then try to sell it on craigslist for $500 or $1000 more, you might be better off that way. Help you get more money and help someone get a good car for a really good price.

to answer your question, yeah man, do the trade!!

Oh and don't be afraid to get quotes at different places.
Try a honda dealership and try a toyota dealership (maybe even try lexus dealership - but they probably won't give you as much)

Worked for me

Sell with Nada value, buy with KBB value

Why do you think I'm drawn towards it?

Oh, a set of winters is included too. I guess you call that the bonus round?
