How to quiet the exhaust

Hi All, I just bought my IS300 about 8 months ago, and I enjoy the idea of having luxury + an engine from a supra. The thing that bugged me from the start was the response time from the engine the moment I pressed on the Gas. I'm coming from a Scion tC that had an intake, header back exhaust, lowered, etc etc...Yes, I know, typical. But I wanted to get away from the rice burner scene and go for more comfort. So in order to get back my response that I am used to, I bought a Stillen Exhaust from a forum member and Joe-Z intake. All of which sounds great! Unfortunately, I commute in Northern Virginia and drive a lot on the high way. It gets kind of obnoxious around 2,500 - 3,000 RPM. It's not loud by all means, but it drones and has a low DEEP tone to it that kind of gets on my nerves. I tried putting towels down in the trunk, obviously a no go. I think there is no helping the noise come in my car since I can hear wind pass through the doors or it might be the windshield from what I read on the forums. Regardless, I want to know if anyone has used Resonators to silence their exhaust. I know this was used on the tC to change the sound of exhaust due to the raspy sound coming from after market headers. I can see a stock resonator on the pipe before the axle back exhaust, but I wonder if I need a 30" resonator of some sort to kill the noise. It doesn't have to be quiet like stock, but I just don't really want it to bug me every time I drive on the highway. I usually use magnaflow resonators, and I know they are amazing on sound modification...but does anyone know if this will silence it. Any ideas?

If you wanted a quiet luxury car you bought the wrong car, IS300's do not have the typical Lexus traits. If you want the exhaust to be quiet I would suggest purchasing an Apex-i WS2 exhaust. It is extremely quiet and is a full cat-back exhaust system that does not have a crazy aftermarket look to it. Also a Scion TC with bolt ons will still make less power at the wheels than a bone stock IS300. I have a feeling the response you were feeling was more than likely from the sound of the intake you had on the car.

I figured that Supra 2JZ-GE engine would go vrooommm, I mean, I'm not going to lie...but she does purrr pretty sexy. The Stillen exhaust is no doubt one of the quietest I've ever heard or owned. But I was looking for more of a suggestion of someone who actually has attempted to quiet their exhaust sound down during the 1,500 to 3,000 rpm range. Some people actually enjoy the peace and quiet vs. the bleeding ears. I just wanted to keep my response time, not necessarily looking at adding HP.

Btw, yes a tC has less HP than an IS300. But a stock IS300 does not have a good enough response regardless of the HP and Torque it displays at the dealer's window. I did not say the tC was better at all, the IS300 is far superior. I was making a point about the the time I tap on the gas and the engine finally responds. My tC had no issues after the bolt-ons, but it was loud. I was hoping to keep my IS300 setup without going back to those days. I want to be pimp and fast at the same time, so...an Asian Pimp if you will. LOL!

how many miles does the car have? two things you can try are 'do the seafoam treatment' and clean the MAF sensor. people say doing these things makes the engine feel 'like new again.' i've never had to do either procedure but if you do a little reading around here, you'll find plenty of testimonials of satisfied users.

I had 3 cases of Dynamat in my 08 Tundra, with 35" AT tires, it was quiet as a LS460 on the inside. If you don't mind the extra weight, it's a good way to kill road noise or drone. Sounds like your exhaust is too loud for you, easy fix is just put a quieter kit on.

You obviously didnt know what you were buying.
