What to look for?
Hello All, new to your forums.
My son is looking at buying a '01 IS300 and he'd like me to take a look at it before he makes his final decision.
Above and beyond the usual stuff, are there any particular problems that I should be looking at that are know wear/tear problems?
Thank you

Are there any inherently troublesome parts?
Window regulators?
Seals?
Etc?
Things that people complain about?
As a BMW 330 owner there's dumb stuff like Window Reg, and cooling system overflow tanks.
Thanks again for the input.

Overall IS300 doesn't really have any common issues, just a few little things:
- 2002-2005 I believe there is a "melting dash problem"
(I don't think it's too bad but it's annoying from what I have read)
- Headlight levelers
(not really an issue, just kinda annoying if the car is lowered the levelers need to be adjusted or if the car has higher miles {usually over 150k** might need new control modules if adjustment doesn't cure problem.)
- Like Justin said normal maintenance (timing belt, water pump, wires, ect..)
- Check to make sure the AC works (same with every car)

90k service as others mentioned.
LCA bushings that lead to inner tire wear
steering rack bushing
serpentine belt
Those are about the most common things that wear out on the IS. My 04 has 97k miles and I just replaced all of those things in the last 6 months. In my 87k miles of ownership it has been problem free! On the 01's the cd changer does tend to jam easily, but can be fixed easily. Oh and make sure the car has a master key as 01 models need a new ecu if the key is lost. Oh and about the key, they break easily at the base so I recommend starting the car by holding it at the base, my original has lasted this entire time without breaking with this method. GL with the purchase, they really are great cars and are built to last.
