Default Timing Belt, Water Pump

Okay guys, i know its a good idea to get the timing belt water pump and all that changed before or around 100k miles. Thing is I know my friends whos is300 run WAY past that and nothing has been changed. I wouldnt say its good to push your luck, but what do you guys think about when it would pretty much certain the timing belt needs changing?

Things that come to mind when doing a TB and WP job would also include, Cam seals, crank seals, possibly TB idler and tensioner (inspect first), drive belt, POSSIBLY the VVTi cam gear and seal, and I always change the thermostat and gasket and do a cooling system flush..
Other things to possibly change would be the valve cover gaskets, plugs, pcv w/ grommet, and do a throttle body cleaning.

BUT again when it comes to thinking about pushing my luck I always think about the timing belt breaking, possibly bending valves, more $$$, etc etc.

Yeah if that timing belt goes you're gonna have to spend way more than what it would cost to replace the timing belt.....

it's one of those - "coulda, woulda, shoulda" kinda things.

Yea people say that...and thats like an obvious thing. But cmon...someone on this forum please tell me if the timing belt has ever broken for you, and at what mileage did it happen, and what condition was the belt before this happened. Its like saying "get health insurance...youl pay a LOT more when something goes bad".....but 9 times out of 10 you wont need it unless you have a bad history, or are of older age.

When it breaks could be very subjective. I did mine @ 115k. What determines the life greatly is if you have oil leaks. Oil wears down the materials in the belt which in turn hardens it and causes teeth to break and come apart. You can bend valves with the VVTi. Toyota says to do it @ 90k. I obviously missed that but confirming I had an oil leak is what made me jump on it very quickly.
I wouldnt say its safe to run it past 120k but there are people that do. Is it advisable? NO! Would you screw a prostitute without a condom and risk catching a life threatening disease and spend a fortune in medication? I hope not... Samething happens with the 2jz vvti. Dont chance it without a condom and give it aids.

lol What I'm trying to say is. Why risk it?

Lol yea i get it, i mean obviously its a good idea, and if you can do it, then CHANGE it. But i mean i actually want to know....can someone tell me if your timing belt has ever broken. And i want some people on the thread to tell me, if they have a high mileage and if they still havent changed their belt.

By the way, I had an audi a while ago. An a4, 99? piece of crap...always had something wrong with it. Anyway sold it to a kid, i think it had 120k on it? see him, about 3 years later....still drives, old timing belt and water pump and all that stuff....on a 99 AUDI! my point is yea it could rip....it could mess up your engine....but someone share a story of it actually happening.

Think theres more of that on my is. I've read a few horror stories of broken timing belts there. If I remember correctly there was a guy that had his break and it DIDN'T bend valves.

Some people are just lucky. I've seen people just drive cars and not maintain them at all and they last for years. Of course most dont but there are a few out there that get the luck of the draw. But I wouldnt want to chance my own luck

I work in a shop, no I have not had a timing belt break cuz I don let it. I've done five motors this month on a variety of cars one of which was a gs 300. Get it done. Period. It happens more than you know
