Default Replacing my HID Control Module

Hello, I'm new to this forum (and forums in general) and Im looking for a little help. My left low beam HID quit working a month ago. Its not the bulb or a relay and my mechanic futher diagnosed the problem as my 'HID Control Module'. The dealer wants $1700 for the part and my mechanic says he can get a 'refurbished' one for $700. Neither of these options works for me for obvious reasons. Is there a cheeper way to fix this problem? A Xenon convertion kit, junkyard, help? thanks in advance
If it helps I own a 2003 IS300

Just pull the headlight and remove the ballast. Replace it with this: http://my.is/forums/f99/fs-oem-headl...-again-418724/

Here's a thread with a DIY link to removing the headlights: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...hts-is300.html

There are 2 wires behind the reflectors, and I found it easiest to remove the large silver ballast plug after removing the other wire. It's a tight fit, but with proper positioning, the ballast plug will slide right out.

As OLT mentioned, your best bet would be to pick up a used ballast. If you are new to my.IS, you probably can't access the For Sale section. You may need to PM btorok12 directly on my.IS. Also, you can get a BNIB OEM ballast for under $700 shipped from discounttoyotaparts. You can probably find OEM ballasts on ebay as well.

Thanks for the links and info. O.L.T is the pic of the 'ballast' the part that I need? My mechanic kept refering to it as a 'module' and said it would be $700!

You better hurry before he sells that thing.

I should be the one buying it. I put an aftermarket generic ballast on last month when my unit failed, which required modifying the headlight assembly wiring. It's working so I'm leaving it be.....

So is it the ballast that powers the headlight? Im still confused if by 'module' im trying to be sold the whole assembly or if it's just the balast that I need.

Short of driving to your house and duct taping a picture of this to your head how much more do we have to do than link you to it, show you a screen shot and say repeatedly "buy this"?

I quit here. LOL............ moving on.

Yup, buy the headlight ballast module. My manual refers to a sway bar as a stabilizer bar. Is it a different part because the name changed? If you need to be convinced, swap the ballasts from one side to the other, and see if the problem follows the ballast.

BTW, tell your mechanic to pound sand. He'll probably buy a ballast off of ebay for $100, and pocket the difference.

$60 is a good deal for that ballast, you should buy that for sure, and do not put cheap HID bulbs in your headlights, ive heard and seen numerous times cheap bulbs cause the ballast to melt, and also cause ballast failure.
