Are you looking for an engine management system (ems) or an actual race tuned ecu?
I'm not expert but I think getting an ems might be cheaper even though that's not even cheap it's like $1000 at least.
With a race tuned ecu, I highly doubt your car would pass inspections making it non-street legal, especially in ca...

Tubby the mechanic from Stillen was the 1 that said performance ecu's (street version) computer chips can increase the hp. here's a website I found surfing www.performancechipsdirect.com. $69 thoughts?

By using this product you agree to release us, its owners, employees and affiliates from all liability
and/or damages you incur by using this product, including, but not limited to: damage, traffic violations, warranty issues and
theft. This product has been tested extensively and has been shown to be safe and not harmful to the longevity of the engine,
however these are only current test results and not guarantees or implications.

Just browsed the website and they say it wont hurt your engine or void your warranty and blah blah blah...but in the additional info (above) they say the opposite...IMO, if i wanted the power gain i would SC or TC. I think its some sort of resistor for the MAF sensor that will TRY to trick your ECU into changing the A/F ratio

Oh it's not an actual ecu, it's some kinda piggyback I guess.
I don't even think you could get a used stock ecu for that cheap
