you always can just swap another motor. these 2jz can easily go 225k with maintenance and not difficult to find another motor for fairly cheap to swap

Its not about the miles in the car, Its about how the car was maintained. Plus you can always just replace old engine parts like pistons, gaskets, and other stuff with new parts and just rebuild the engine.

I agree that mileage is a bit too high and problems will start popping up.

Pro's
Its inexpensive
It looks in OK shape

Con's
Its red !! ( OK that's me)
Its Auto !!! me again...
its 1,000 miles from the timing belt service.

But it will last a long time.

I don't know why the other poster only thinks it can go to 225K, I purchased an Audi from a friend, yes a friend, that had 450k on it !!! Original owner, original untouched engine, Auto rebuilt twice under warranty. I had to get the Auto seals replaced at a transmission shop. Did not get it overhauled !!!

Daughter drove it for a few yrs then I sold it for what I paid for it !!!

Yeah high mileage isn't bad
2jz is like bulletproof
as long as you keep up with regular maintenance you will be fine.

Worst thing you will have to spend a couple hundred on small repairs
But that's nothing compared to the price of buying a brand new one.

Hypothetically..........
If I find 2 identical IS300's
- 2001 with 250k miles in great condition for $5,000
- 2001 with 99k miles in great condition for $9,000
I'd much rather get the cheaper one, if any problems happen it's gonna cost the same amount to fix on both of these cars.
The only difference is did you pay $9,000 or $5,000 at the beginning...
Oh and resale value is gonna be less for the one with higher miles, but who cares you will easily get back what you paid, not sure you can say the same for the one with lower miles...

Yes, I would go for this one as well.

Really with a IS300 if it is well cared for and all the maintenance is followed, the big stuff( engine transmission, etc.) is bulletproof. It's small stuff like CD players braking that is annoying, but say compared to a E46 BMW 3 series of similar years, the IS300 is a no brainer, even if you have to put some extra work into them!

You guys that think high mileage is a problem need to rethink. My 2002 IS300 has 237K all I've had to do is spark plugs, oil changes and tires. Heck my CD player still works. This is the best care I have owned as far as reliabilty goes.
