Hmm I just recently got some FALKEN FK452's for 550 balanced mounted and installed at Discount tires/american tires.
The I went from 215/45/17 tires to 225/45/17. These tires have good grip in the dry roads. (so cal) i havent had a chance to test in rain yet ... doesnt rain in so cal..
My car feels much more planted and safe now.
First couple hundred miles the tires feel like its floating but when you break it in its very good with grip.

I can't speak for Sumitomos and my opinion is very biased because I've only owned 3 sets of tires and the last two were Falkens. I loved the RT-615, but I drove them hard and I didn't do an alignment, so they wore out on me real quick. I currently have FK452, which are doing pretty well. They don't grip like the RT-615, but they work just fine for daily driving.

depend which tire from which brand exactly? all season or summer tire? sumitomos is a smaller company owned by Dunlop... Sumitomo tires are great though. I've used the HTZ 1 and 3.

Sumitomo!!!!! I had gone through manny pairs of falken tires and nothing performs better for me than sumitomo... I am a verry agressive driver that love the feel of acceleration and by far the sumitomo is a tougher compound tire with a AAA rating to wear. Traction is much greater on the sumitomo also compared to falken. As for noise it never bothers me from the tires... i realy dont even notice it because I listen for me engine more than anything. Im my expertice I say sumitomo much better investment than falken.

Falken Tire is owned by Sumitomo corp. Which owns a chain of tires of tire stores ex: Tire Kingdom, Merchant Tires, National Tire and Battery, and Big O. Both tires are good products however, As stated before its going to be what your looking for. I can say for both street and occasional auto crossing the Sumitomo HTR III is a excellent tire. I've installed them on some Evos and they have loved them. The HTR II is a great handling tire; however, it has a lot of noise but it does grip fairly well. If the HTR II are not taken care of they will not last and will become chopped and noisy. But if straight performance and handling is what your about than the Falken Azenis is what you need. You just have to find out whats right for you.
