Thinking about buying a Lexus
Hello Everyone-
I am new to the forum because I am trying to get an idea of everyones thoughts on the IS300 Lexus. I plan on selling my 2001 Honda Prelude and buying a used IS300, preferably 2003 and newer. I was just trying to find out what people thought of it who own it, any problems with it, maintenance etc. I obviously have a Honda now which is not that expensive to maintain but would love to get a luxury car but still not have to dig a huge hole in my pocket. So far I have heard that this car is fairly similar in maintenance costs as the Honda, I am sure a little more money but not ridiculous or anything. I am not trying to be cheap or anything but i again I do not want to burn a hole in my pocket buying something that will cost a lot to upkeep. Thanks so much!

Thinking about buying an IS300
Hello-
I also posted in the site suggestions and questions area but I thought I might post here as well since it seems like a better place. Anyway, I am thinking about buying an IS300. I now have a 2001 Honda Prelude I am most likely going to sell and wanted to get people's thoughts on owning the IS300, maintenance, problems, what you like/dislike. I have heard that maintenance cost is fairly cheap compared to most luxury cars which is nice because I want a luxury car but don't want to pay way out of pocket. Thanks in advance for all the help!

Welcome to Club Lexus! The site suggestions and questions forum is for questions about the Club Lexus site (not about lexus models) so this is the right spot and I've merged your threads.
The IS has pretty decent reliability ratings and good aftermarket support. The engine is a tried-and-true Toyota / Lexus 2JZ-GE inline six motor.
The key - like with any new car - is going to be finding one which has been well maintained and kept.
Another Lexus forum www.my.is has a lot of specific detail on the 1st gen IS as well, so if you haven't you might also want to search there.

The IS300 is a really realible car, for proof look at the latest consumer reports and under best used cars they list the IS300 and other Lexus cars. The only real big problems is the stock in dash six disc CD changer gets jammed and stops working. This is the only bad thing that has happaned to my car. Also if you do any winer driving at all snow tires are a must. For maintence, essentialy the car is a toyota, so costs are not as big compared to a BMW for example. A little more then a Honda, but not much more, but people will try to get more out of you because of the Lexus badge, just use the knowledge on this forum, and my.IS and Isfanatics and you should be fine. Good luck.
