2002 IS300 common problems and things to look out for?
Hey guys,
After a long hiatus from the Lexus world I'm back. My girlfriend says she really wants an IS300. So I go looking and I find a blue 2002 with 71k miles and a MANUAL TRANSMISSION for $15k at a dealer.
Are there common issues with these? Anything to look out for on the test drive? I have an E39 right now and they all have common issues that need to be addressed. Since the IS is a Toyota it's probably more reliable but there has to be some quirks.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Dash
Be sure to look out for the "melting dashboard" problem...my car as well as a few others on this forum have had problems with our dashboards in which the dash (particularly the SRS AirBag piece) gets sticky and when u touch it, it becomes a mess of black goo all over your finger and it smudges the dash...hope it doesnt have that problem because it sounds like you found yourself a nice little deal there...goodluck

KPC: Wow good information. I test drove the car today but didn't touch the dash... I'll go back and do that next time.
I was able to talk them down to $12.9k (car has rock chips and a moldy smell inside)
