Engine rpm @ 80mph
Hi all , just got my 04 Sportcross a couple of weeks ago.
I've tried searching for this topic, but all I got were for LX GS and ES.
When I was driving by myself on the freeway, the engine revs stays around 3100 to 3200 rpm @ 80mph.
It seems a bit high to me, is that normal?
Thanks In Advance

Definitely normal. Differential ratio and gearing help keep the 2JZ-GE in the sweet spot for midrange power.

Thanks for all the replys!!
Yes, I am a little bit surprised by the fuel consumption on this car.
On my last tank, 60% freeways I only get 17mpg.
When I'm on the freeway, I always unconciously clicking the "shift up" button for a sixth gear
A 4000 lbs V8 powered LS got better milage than I do............
but it can't compare to the IS on the fun to drive ratio

i get 19 MPG with my 4 cylinder rsx so it's not bad at all for 2jz 3.0.

Whoaaa! How do you get 19 mpg with an RSX??? I am not sure that is even possible. EPA rating is something like 25 in city driving. You are doing a lot worse than that. You must be sitting at a red light for 45 min. at a time.

3200 RPM at 80 MPH is about right given the E-Shift's gearing and torque converter lock-up characteristics. One thing that keeps the IS300 from getting optimal mileage (besides the car's gearing) is the smoothness of the transmission...at least when the transmission is warm. That smoothness, while making the car pleasant to drive, detracts from mileage and acceleration in two ways: First, to help get that smoothness, a lot of HP and torque is masked and absorbed in the torque converter fluid, wasting some of the engine's power. Second, Lexus uses a system that many luxury cars do...the engine-transmission computer feedback that retards engine power and torque during the shift, smoothing it out but delaying it and allowing slippage and some RPM jump on occasion. That slippage also costs a little mileage and acceleration. There are transmission shift kits available that firm up the shift and make the transmission a little more efficient if you want that. ......Rominl and Flip probably know more about those than I do and where to order them.

Do you know if the "power mode" is related to this somehow? Does "power" mode change the shifting smoothness or just shifts at a different RPM?
