Cruise Control Operation (harsh)
Anyone notice a rough release of the throttle when the cruise control is shut off after being engaged? I hear a thud and the release of the throttle is very abrupt. I have a 5 spd, any experience with this? Doesn't seem like it should be this way. Could it be a result of the wonderful electronic throttle control? One would think that this would provide a smoother release.

It's the electronic throttle control that's causing that abrupt throttle drop off. If you're still in warranty, it might be something good to bring up for warranty work.

Some of the older Toyotas did that...released the cruise control with an audible "pop" sound as the gas pedal snapped back.....but IS300 systems with automatics with E-shift are usually seamless. In my IS300 the green light goes out, and that's it...you don't hear or feel a thing. Since you have a 5-speed, the jerk you feel and hear upon release may also be related to the fact that with a manual clutch, you have a solid and rigid mechanical drivetrain connection between the engine and rear wheels...the power is not absorbed and dispersed in the torque converter transmission fluid like with a conventional automatic...so when the cruise control releases, you may just be feeling the release through the clutch and drivetrain.
Try test-driving some other 5-speed IS300s if your dealer has any in stock and see if you feel it on other 5-speeds. Flip has a point, though..it could also be the electronic throttle unit.
