Default Stock Engine Throttle Lag

Hi All:

New member, first-time post.

I'm a two-time former Porsche owner with several years experience at high-speed track events in NoCal. Business forced sale of last 911, but have just been authorized to play w/ my wife's dead-stock 2001 IS. Nice car, but...

What can be done about its annoying throttle lag? Mash the throttle and the car just bogs down and thinks about whether or not it wants to respond before finally getting w/ the program. PWR button hardly helps. Dealer says this is normal...something about concern for my safety. Any tips?

Hey..

yeah, it was normal for the 2001's...

there are ECU updates for it to help resolve the lag...

go to the dealer and ask them if they have been done or not...if not...get the ECU updates!!

and try the E-shifting mode....

Thanks!

Any resources you can suggest on what the possibilities are w/ the car? Books, mags, etc.? I'm especially interested in hi-bang/low-buck tricks like aftermarket chips, quick intake/exhaust mods, etc. I know a lot of this stuff exists for german makes but I know nothing of the Lexus world. Where's a good place to start?

Anybody know who's the best tuner in NoCal? Looking for smarts & integrity. Performance, not flash.

Because this is a Lexus/Toyota, there are no such thing as aftermarket "chips" for us. Low buck tricks would only be limited to the simple intake and exhaust. If you go with an aftermarket header like Xerd or Toyomoto, you run into CEL problems. A O2 sim would ultimately fix that, but of course at a cost.

Here's the best resource for NorCal modding...
