Interesting, I guess I missed that on .net. I know there was confirmation that the LF-C concept is supposed to be the next IS. It'd be cool if we could get an IS400T.

Someone was building it as a project.

The LF-C (Lexus Future Coupe) concept is our first glimpse of the design language that will define the next-generation IS, which surfaces in early 2006. With only a sedan and a crossover wagon, the current IS300 has had a tough time competing with the many BMW 3-series models, and Lexus aims to rectify that shortcoming next time around. "If we have more variants-two-door models, four-doors, multiple engines, all-wheel drive-we can sell more than the 1000 a month we're doing now," says U.S. Lexus chief Denny Clements. To that end, the curvaceous LF-C is a multifunctional four-seater that starts as a coupe and, as its hard top retracts, morphs into a targa, a speedster, and a fully open convertible. The IS will follow the new GS as part of Toyota's long-range plan to remake Lexus's design image in a sexier, more sculptural direction. Like the GS, the IS will jettison its current inline six-cylinder engine in favor of a new, 245-hp V-6, and the corporate 4.3-liter V-8 also will be offered. Will the LF-C's trick roof actually make it to production? "We certainly hope so," says Clements. That would put us in a position of leading the segment, not following."

is 430<<
the IS 430 is the next generation IS 300 engine. although, the 3.0 or 3.5 (not sure) will still be standard on base models, the 4.3 will be a part of a new high performance division Lexus will be working on to compete with the M3's bmw's E55AMG's and S4 (wich spanks M3's).
In case you are wondering where the i came up with this>> i went to the detroit autoshow this january and spoke to a lexus rep about the car and about the new GS 430 coming out in 06'. he said lexus is designing a whole new fleet of is300's> coupe, convetible and sedan and by 2010 you should already see some around.

well<<in reference to the 2010 comment. i understood him to say that by 2010 we should see thier full line up in the street. i heard the 2 door wont look at all like the 4 door> it might have a booted up facelift and a low gravity design (wich would make sense for it to come out alote later than the 06' standard is300)

-Uhhh, I disagree, the WRX & Evo are in a similar class...regardless if Lexus is competing directly with the BMW 3-series. In fact there are many IS300 modified rally cars out there racing. I'd opt for a few extra thousand for the IS430 just because of the V-8. Gimme a 6-spd or a paddle shifter and I'll line up at the dealer!

I'd have to agree with rominl. The IS300 isn't marketed as a sports car like the Evo or WRX STi. It's meant to be a luxury sports sedan. Mitsubishi and Subaru are not typically considered luxury car manufacturers. Though the IS, Evo, and WRX STi are in similar price ranges, there are many differences between them, and they aren't marketed to compete. The IS compete more with the like of the BMW 3-series, Acura TL, G35, and the like.
And I would still prefer the 2JZ-GE over a 4.3L V8 in the IS. The best would be if Lexus/Toyota would build the IS with a 2JZ-GTE. I think that would be a much better powerplant.
