Orange peel is when the surface of the paint looks like the surface of an orange. I haven't seen it on any Lexus. Had it on my Camaro. Had it a few times on other cars after getting a part of the car resprayed. Ususally by small bodyshops trying to cut corners or get the job done in a hurry. After I saw the orange peel, I ran my hand along the entire surface of two cars in the showroon. There were pitts in the paint surface. All this means is Nissan/Infiniti is really cutting corners where it can. Only someone like me would even pay attention. I grew up across the street from a autobody/paint guy. He taught me a few things.

Yes, I said in one of my recent posts that the IS300 had a prop rod....one of its few faults. One reason for that is that the IS300 as we know it here was never really designed to be a Lexus to start with. Toyota considered selling the Altezza here under the Toyota name like it does overseas but decided that they wanted the car to be marketed as a new Lexus sport sedan instead to draw away some of the BMW 3-series crowd. So while the car is indeed a Lexus in many ways (quality, refinement, etc...), in other ways it is not. It took several years to get memory seats, ( what Flip was waiting for ), navigation screens, stability control, full leather, manual transmission, etc.....and still it has not gotten hood struts. I like the IS, though, for what it is, not what it isn't.

Never mind the Camaro.....that car is not particularly high-priced to start with, and has a reputation for poor quality. But when you see classic orange-peel on a $55,000 Cadillac Escalade...no, man....that don't cut it.
I've seen better paint on new Hyundai Accents for $10,000-13,000 than on a lot of Cadillacs. No, I'm not exaggerating.....Hyundai products have improved tremendously in the last 5-7 years.

Word, i'm a senior in at highland park high school in Dallas and i have an 03 IS300 with 7k miles on it. There are at least 5 IS300's at my 9-12 grade 2000 kid school. The coupe g35 in black looks sweet! Excellent choice.

i'd keep my is300 because of it's versatility and model. It's a sedan so it'll be easier for people to get in and out of the car.

Stock for stock, the g35 makes more power, but that's it... G35s are still not fast cars, maybe 14 second 1/4 mile cars... Id take a tastefully modded IS over a nodded G35 any day of the week...

Looking at the actual car the is300 yes has less power but has no recalls or any real problems. the G35s is notorious for having a oil consupmtion problem that is dealing with rebuilding the engine or a swap to fix.
about power if u already own a is300 instead of changing the whole car and getting urself back into a car payment why dont u jus get a loan for $6k and boost it then ull never complain about power and u stay with a gorgeous car and have reliability! my opinions of course so no hurt feelings.

As a owner of an Is300 and previously a G35 Daily Driver (was my fathers). The IS has a much cleaner and better feeling interior and the reliability is miles ahead of the G. However the G coupe is amazing fun to drive and throw around corners, and hills, and mountains, and any other tine you want to have fun. Only problem is as a DD its a bit annoyingly rough on the back and it eats breaks and rotors for breakfast and dinner. My money is on the IS but if you decide on a G make sure you get one later than the '05 model. The years before that have a camber problem.
