Default The IS F hunt begins

Happy Sunday to all!!

I have to say, I am so thankful for this forum, this model section in particular. Super helpful and tons of good information about this car. Maybe it helps also that it is such an awesome vehicle, you read mostly positive information!! haha

I have been a Lexus fan for many years now. Have owned two 2006 GS 430 (V8 fan boy) and loved them. My first one I did suspension and wheels, and was overall very happy! I went to an A5 S-Line next for a more sporty feel. Fun car but had to go back to a reliable Lexus for work (sales rep). So I found a mint 2006 Lexus GS430 with 45k miles. Love the car but getting very bored of it.

So my search starts for an IS F!! I have read about the difference between the 08-10 and common issues. Maybe its just opinion but I think the wheels on the 2010 are terrible looking in comparison to the 2008. But I think I will appreciate the technology upgrades in the car for work (Bluetooth, nav, etc)

So I have been looking now for about 2 weeks and this will definitely be some work to find the right car for the right price. Suggestions on what fair market pricing is on both 08 and 10 models?

The ONLY local car to me (Las Vegas) is at CarMax, argueably rough condition. 2008 white with 59k for 34k. Seems high to me, especially not in mint condition.

Any advice between the years and best practices in finding one are very much appreciated!!!

Thanks all

The A5:

Since u know it's the car u want I would just expand my search to different states. Often a member here will check out the car for u or could do a PPI inspection for around $150. Shipping isn't bad considering ur spending over $30k for the car anyway. I bought my 08 and then my 11 without looking at them with no issues except the 11 had a couple rock chips in the hood that dealer paid to get fixed. As for pricing, it's all over the board. Some places will just sit on an F and not haggle, others will try and move them if they have say awhile. Go to Cargurus.com and u will see what they market is dictating. Good luck hunting

I paid 34k for my 08 with 41000 miles on it and it included certified pre-owned warranty for 3 years or 100000 miles. I would think you should be able to pick one up cheaper than that given this occurred 6 months ago, but I understand market conditions can vary. I would look for a 2010+ in that price range if I were shopping again.

Do you regret going with the 08 versus holding out for a 10. CPO is a very nice feeling driving around with though, I must admit.

Not really. I like the car very much and a 10+ rarely comes up for sale in the Midwest plus I'm not sure it would have been in the budget. It's the nicest car I've owned so far. I am happy with it.

I don't know why, but for reason they look less aggressive to me?? Maybe the wheels or something. Who knows.

Trust me, the car is a very angry monster.

I would go 2012 or higher. There is a silver 2014 in Los Angeles per AutoTrader. Do a search.

I just shipped my car cross country, enclosed trailer for $1500.
