Default Coming down visiting Virginia, who's all there!

I'm planning to do a small road trip to Virginia Beach from July 3rd to 7th with the gf, as shes never been there and last time I came down it was many many years ago.

Wondering if anyone on this forum is from that area, and if they have any pointers as to where to stay that's nice and not crazy expensive, preferably as close as possible to the beach area?

Also, is it possible to go visit the NAS air base, I'd really love to check that place out!

Thanks in advance!

Lots of Virginia F's on here. Just a word of caution, VA is VERY strict when it comes to speeding, so take it easy once you cross into VA. If I'm not mistaken, 10 or 15 mph over is considered reckless driving.

Yea thats very strict for sure....and also radar detectors are not legal in VA correct? I'm used to using the detector right after I cross the border thru NY, OH, PA, MI, IL, etc.

I'm happy to give you some information. Check your PM.

And as a general rule, anything over 80mph is reckless as well as 20mph over on the highway is reckless, whichever is less. And the VA State Troopers are very active on the highways, ESPECIALLY over holiday weekends like the 4th of July, so just set your cruise control and be smart.

I'll set it at 5mph over what the limit is. Thanks a lot for all the info!

No radar detectors, anything over 80 or anything 20 or more over posted is reckless, and if your tint is dark you can still get a ticket. A lot of times if your tint is too dark for your home state you will still be written for it here.

I live in VA and run radar constantly. I have an escort redline hardwired in my car. People say they are not helpful but I can count numerous times where my radar picked up a cop far before I stepped on it. Obviously with laser it's pretty instant but it gives you a heads up they laser from pretty far out on the interstate. But just don't speed excessively and you are fine.

Default WAZE app.

Get the WAZE app. It's amazing during the day. Not so mush late at night since it's a user based app. Can't tell you how many times it has saved my a**

Also any member in the VA beach area Please PM me. Been in the area for about 8 months. Looking to see if there are any car groups/ clubs in the area you are part of.

VA Beach F owner here!

I second all the comments about speeding especially in my area. VA state troopers love to hang out on the interstates during the holiday weekends, so exercise extra caution especially on I-95 and I-64. Anytime you see a little clearing on the left side, there's a chance a trooper is hanging out there.

I commute between here and DC almost regularly and have been very lucky not getting caught despite going at an almost constant 80MPH every time. Knowing where the troopers lurk and slowing down at the right moments really helps.

As for people who are wondering about local car meets, a Cars and Coffee meet is held every first Saturday of the month, starting early around 7AM. The meet is held at the Promenade shopping center on Laskin Road, about 10 minutes from the beach and just off of the 264 interstate exit. It so happens that July 4 falls on the first Saturday of the month, so it is a good time to check it out if you don't mind waking early for it.

Any questions feel free to PM me! Been on and off CL for the last several weeks due to wedding planning but I'll respond as fast as I can!

They can write him up, but if his car isn't registered in VA, they can go f*** themselves.

Cops usually say the RD's are not helpful, but that's cool with me. Let them believe that.

RedLine is a good choice since it's immune to Spectre 5 but I would personally run an STiR+.

Laser is another ballgame.

P.S: Radar detectors are also illegal on all Military bases, so don't forget to take it off the windshield completely and tuck it away.

I will be moving to NC in 3 weeks, so I will be rolling through VA here and there. Getting a 2nd car (daily driver) and all the need electronics.
