Default AZ - Station that has VP 100 and Shell 95 from the pump!

So, just the other day I was talking to a friend of mine and he informed me that there is a gas station off Bell and the 101 called Toms Thumb that has VP 100 and Shell 95 at the pump! Naturally, I decided to pay them a visit and got half a tank of this classy champagne for my F...

Might just be placebo effect but, it certainly feels smoother and pulls a bit harder. Especially with PPE headers and PTS exhaust.

And yes, it's 7.99/gallon.

^^ Was that on 100 octane? Damn........you should do a dyno on that just to see. I really want to try higher octane too but nothing in my area has it.

Yup, 100 octane.

Going to take it over to my local shop and put it on the Dynapack and see what it does if I have time this weekend. On 91 pee-pee gas it made 419.9 whp and 396wtq.

It won't make a bit of difference.

I agree with Lance that a higher octane gas will not help, but can actually hurt performance in cars not tuned for or in need of the slower combustion rate of high octane gas.
boosted or high compression engines benefit most.

Several factors affect the burn rate (flame speed) of the gas. A common misconception is that octane increases the burn rate, but that is just not true. Octane increase increases the temperature required to ignite the fuel. The chemical properties control the fastest burn rate that the fuel can achieve. With HHO mixed in, the fuel chemical properties are altered, and the fuel now burns faster.Without HHO the air-fuel ratio (a/f/r) affects burn rate. Mixtures with a/f/r of less than 11:1 have little chance of burning (to rich), and a/f/r greater than 20:1 have little chance of burning (too lean). The fastest burn rate is at 17:1 but that is far to lean for reduced emissions, and way to lean for maximum power. Best power is achieved at an a/f/r of 12.6:1. With HHO enhancement all these a/f/r values will surely change. This change is what enhances the fuel burn and resultant engine efficiency.

^^ the flame speed info is dead on the money. The only thing I would differ on is the HHO comments. Brown's gas (HHO) when added to gasoline engines showed no change in ignition timing, so saying HHO makes it burn faster is inaccurate. Also saying 11:1 is too rich to burn isn't true either. I've seen Supras at 10:1 blowing clouds of black smoke at WOT...it's ugly but it's burning. Last, best power in NA engines is at 13.2:1 if your combustion chamber is well designed to prevent detonation. Most guys run richer numbers for safety margin. You never know when something in there will start glowing, then all bets are off.

Again, 100 octane won't make any difference over a top tier 91 octane. The only speed you will gain is because your wallet is lighter.

Why don't you just add some E85? I know my car runs rich around 12.5-12 AFR at redline; some E85 my lean it out in the optimal 13's
