Default Infamous Metal ticking sound

Just read a 16 page thread about the metal ticking sound from the under side of the engine. seems like a lot of ppl have experienced it.

I noticed my sound a few weeks ago but wasn't as loud as the videos I've seen. Didn't really bother me. I did notice today that the sound was a lot louder and similar to what other ppl have described. The only thing that has changed is i had my oil changed over the weekend with mobil 1 5w-30 fully synthetic. Now i don't know if that could factor into the sound getting louder.

Im really hoping its just a cat and i can replace my headers and everything is good. i just got the car with 19k miles on it and do not have a warranty.

I have been worrying about "engine noises" for years and at this point if its something i can't fix without dumping thousands of dollars into it, then so be it. i am just going to enjoy the car too the fullest. Plus, once i get full exhaust, it will help with canceling out the ticking sound

Every time I change my oil, my noise also gets a bit louder. It goes away after a few miles. I don't believe there's anything to worry about.

I use RedLine 5W-30, don't notice this noise a whole lot.

^Is the sound that I am hearing in my ISF. It happens when the car is idling and it'll come and go. Any ideas what the root cause is? I found another thread by a CL member here which was about 11 pages and it took the dealership +100 days to fix and it was because they rebuilt the whole engine. I am hoping this is not the only fix for this..

sounds about the same as my issue also. cold starts are fine as well as idle sound. its also at idle but only when the engine is at operating temperature. i have had 1 Lexus dealership tell me its lifters, another Lexus dealership tell me its a leaking exhaust manifold / gasket and i have taken it to an exhaust specialist and they say its not exhaust and does not sound like lifters. so im at a loss currently.

someone replied on this topic earlier that its not something to worry about but it just sounds odd to me. is this sound normal for this engine?

so yours does this when at normal operating temps also? can you make a clip of your engine sound? give us all something to compare to. how long has yours been doing this?

perhaps it is normal for these engines, but then why are the dealerships all saying something different? one guy as mentioned in another youtube clip actually rebuilt the engine because of this.

I've always thought that the minor ticking seems to go along with the engine rpms and its just the fuel injectors. There are so damn many of them anyways... I'm no mechanic by any means, just my 2 cents...

Yes!! Glad to see a post about this, i was just noticing this problem in the corner of my engine closest to the drivers seat. Was going to post a thread and get some input seems like this is not a rare issue. intermittent ticking about 3 ticks a second at idle, picks and chooses when to tick. Lasts for about 4 seconds and waits for another 20 to start up again. Some days more than others. Good thread!

My 2012 makes the same sound. My dads precious 2007 toyota tundra with the 5.7l engine made the same sound. No problems ever.

Every Lexus I have had has been direct injected ( GS350, LS460, and ISF) and they all sound the same. If you really want to hear it just pull into a drive thru for a burger. You will hear it like crazy. The V8s have more injectors and will tick louder.
