Hi guys. What is the max width tires on 09 stk isf rim that will fit? 285-30-19 Pirelli did not fit. Too wide
Any specific tire brands that are known to fit?

Are you saying you mounted a 285/30R19 Pirelli on stock 2009 wheels and it rubbed? There are plenty of members here who have mounted that size on those rims without issue (Continental DWs and Bridgestone S04 Pole Positions). Are you extremely lowered? What specific Pirelli tire are you talking about?

Pirelli Corsa system. Car is not lowered. The tire guys said it wouldn't fit on the rim. Compared to the 255's on the car the pirellis were almost 2" wider. Apparently tires sizes are all different comparing to manufactures?

They will fit on the rim. The size is wider than is recommended for a 9.0" wheel though...recommended width is 9.5"-10.5". I'm sure it's not optimal, but multiple people here have reported no issues when running 285/30R19 on a 9.0" rim.

Is it possible that tires differ in size. Example Pirelli 285 vs potenza 285?
The tire guy seemed to know what he was talking about and said if they did

I know a lot of other members have said that they have no problems with running wider tires on the stock rims but I called at least 5 rim/tire shops and they all said that anything bigger than 245 in the fronts or 275 in the rears would cause some issues. The tires I was inquiring about were the Hankook Ventus. They also said that 9"+ width rims in the front would need to have stretched tires in order to fit. I would like to think I've done extensive research here on CL and everybody has said no issues so maybe it's just the tire places being cautious.

I'm driving a 2010 ISF with no suspension mods. I've been on the hunt for summer rims/tires and was inquiring about a square setup (9.5 all round) which doesn't seem possible based on the shops that I've called.

I have run both Continental DW and Bridgestone 245/285 Combo on my stock wheels. No issues whatsoever, other than improved handling. Your tire guy is being overly cautious.

The tires you are talking about are marginally wider than the S04 Pole Positions...not enough of difference to make any difference on required wheel width though.

I just bought a set of 255/275 tires with my tire shops. The shop said they will fit on my car no problem, but the tires will wear out faster in the middle part because of different sizes. I am not sure about the mechanism behind this but you should be fine with that upgraded size.

Overly cautious? Not really, just following the manufacturer's recommendations. There's no good reason to put a 285 on a 9 inch rim from a mechanical performance perspective. No different than putting a 245 on a 9 inch rim. Sure, you can lever it on, but it won't perform the way the manufacturer intended. If you want to run wider tires and get the most from them, you need to follow their recommendations. If you don't, then there's nothing to complain about when they don't perform well.

But if you never track your car, none of this means much. It is impossible to test the limits of your car on a public road.

^^^^You and I have differing opinions on a lot of issues. And surprisingly enough, we also agree on a lot of others.

We happen to disagree here. My F has been on a track, once. My S-04s stuck like glue, no tail wagging. I have put a few miles on them, and the wear pattern is equal from edge to edge.

I can attest that the 245/285 combo will fit the stock 8s and 9s and outperform the stock sizes. That's my experience, believe it or don't, your choice.

They felt like crap when I ran the wider size on my stock wheels. To each his own but I tried it and was back to stock sizes in less than a couple of miles. Made a u turn and went back to Discount tire to have the oem size mounted. The steering response seemed numbed and the rear tires felt like they were flat when I steered left and right back and fourth. Kind of frustrating because they looked amazing and the car needs more rear grip.

Did you try the Bridgestone S04's? I ordered them in 245/35/19 + 285/30/19 and am getting them put on this weekend.

Mish I will let you know how they are. I bought them based on Lou's (flowrider) recommendation and others who have tried 245/285.

I've been running this size for the past 2500 miles with no issues. To me they feel quite grippy and responsive in the corners on the street, but I have not had a chance to track them yet.
