My 08 had a huge piece of paint come off the front within two months of buying it. I didn't complain as I was going to have them painted blue anyway, but I am curious what they'd say if I had.

All I had used on them product wise was Sonax. No track time by me and I doubt prior owner did. Do you have a cpo?

I have issues with the paint on the calipers; the clear coat is coming off. The rears look almost like new but the fronts are in bad shape. I guess the front brakes get really hot?? My car is an 08 with 44K miles.

+1 here. I'm thinking to repaint them or reapply glossy clear coat on them.

Mine also but mainly where the sliding pins go to hold the bracket. I doubt it'll be covered by warranty.. it's a 2011 btw.

A 08 came in for that same reason, Lexus denied him so we just ended up painting them a whole different color..
Might be a chance to do a new color yourself..

You sir are correct! You can definitely file a complaint to corporate. Corporate will get in touch with your selected dealer and come to an accord. All my previous claims on all my IS models got taken care of, except for my is250 dashboard melting. Lexus met me 50/50. All my other complaints especially on my previous F were taken care of. They replaced both headlights and fog lamps. Got 4 new brake pads and rotors, full detail, repaint on parts of the car. Always take it to corporate and fight it. Be assertive, yet humble and always remind them about the competition...good luck!

It wouldn't hurt to file a complaint to corporate first. Many members here have painted the isf brakes an other color and replaced the lexus decal for brembos =P

Exclamation

My 08's have over 100k miles with zero issues..

Couple of factors will come into play for this... During brake service if the finish is chipped, nicked, damaged or hammered.. Especially in the pins area... The rest is history..!

Once water, dirt, salts and/or etc.. get underneath the surface, the heating and cooling cycles will cause the finish to start the flake away process..

Really not much you can do besides refinish...
If its under warranty and it can be deemed there is a manufacture defect, it should be covered...

Also, never use a harsh chemical or spray to clean off the brake dust.. Just warm water and car soap does the safe job of cleaning..

Three of my calipers are just fine. One rear chipped massively. I never use harsh chemicals on the calipers, and the rear brakes don't ever get anything like hot. At least compared to my fronts. Despite the silver Lexus turning gold, the amount of heat has not impacted the finish on the front calipers.

I really think some calipers were painted better than others at the factory.
