Weekend project - painted calipers and flat bottom steering wheel!
#18
jesus that looks good. and props on the wheels, too. kinda saddens me that folks have gone away from wheels with lips. theyve always been my favorite type. kudos on your choice.

Thanks everyone for all the compliments. Here's a bonus picture that I took w/ my iPhone earlier today:
I'm really liking how the calipers color reflect off of my polished lips!
If you're talking about the grip dimples on the back of the steering wheel, then no..
I would check out this thread for the steering wheel. Has everything you need to know. We got this wheel from the eBay seller "customupholstery11"

For the paint, I got the color I wanted done locally (they mixed the color and put into a professional aerosol can. 3 stages - primer, metallic orange/yellow flake, then clear.
It's considerably thicker than my '08 steering wheel, which I always felt was way too thin. I was driving an Evo 8 prior to the F and the Momo steering wheel on it reminds me of this new wheel.
Yep, left them on the car and painted them. I was very careful to mask off nearly everything that I didn't want paint to get on. I also removed all of the brake pins and tension clip. The color itself isn't high-temp, but the primer is. For daily driving it should be perfectly fine. I wouldn't recommend something like this if you frequent road race tracks.
Thanks! It was definitely worth the wait and better than ANY of the other steering wheels I've seen on other people's cars. Honestly, I would be happy with version 1 or this one - they both look fantastic!
Thanks! I've been really happy with my SSR SP3s. And now the brakes finally pop behind them
As best as I could. I'm sure I could have used a bit more orange flake back there, but honestly you won't ever see it, so I'm not all torn up about it.
I thought about it, but wasn't sure how it would mesh with the silver-y CF finish of the center console. The steering wheel is far enough away that i don't notice. I'll think about it some more

I think if DCTMS made their flat bottom wheel thicker it would be awesome.

I don't know if the '11 and '12 IS-F steering wheel is the same but I had the DCTMS flat bottom wheel on my IS350 and while it felt nicer and a little thicker than the stock IS350 wheel, my '12 IS-F oem wheel feels much better and thicker than the DCTMS wheel.

Looks great. This is something I wouldn't mind doing eventually. Originally I wasn't sure if matching texalium or normal carbon fiber would look better. After seeing this I'm definitely leaning more towards normal CF now. Adding even more of the silver stuff seems to be over doing it.
