If I'm not mistaken ZF makes auto trans for BMW and GM whereas our 8 speed is made by Aisin.

If it were true I wouldnt be that odd. Lamborghini used to use Nissan 300z headlights for the diablo. Not a transmission but I'm sure other car manufacturers do the same thing for different parts.

This statement is incorrect. ZF is a German company. A lot of their transmissions are found in German cars, Audi, MB, BMW, etc. But not in the IS F. I can't speak for other model Japanese cars, but probably not.

Correct...the transmission in the IS F is an Aisin AA80E transmission

Def not the same

As stated ours is an aisin 8spd torque converter auto.

The e9x m3 transmissions are either a 6 spd manual or the 7 spd dct

Where did this ZF story originate? A friend of mine was under the same mistaken impression.

In my case......I had read the first paragraph of this Car & Driver article hastily....as it is written (sort of misleading).

On second read, it is very clear they are only making a reference to the ZF development.

Actually you're partially wrong toyota is Lexus and the Lexus tranny is aisin which is Japanese transmission manufacturer and 30% owned by toyota so yes , our trannys are made by toyota
There is bunch of divisions of aisin they also make navigation units and chemicals...

C&D writes lots of misleading stuff their editors are to be blamed for this lol
Read something that the BMW 2 series used the same 8 speed auto as the Lexus Isf
But if it's a ZF then it's not a Lexus tranny
