Default So about the heater in my F...

What the heck is up with the heater in this thing? Only had it a couple of months, coming from a 2013 4runner limited with the bells and whistles, and my best friend has an 07 GX470 so we're both familiar with how a Toyota system should act. I had noticed it taking forever to get warm on a couple of occasions already, but tonight we went to town and its chilly - 39* currently. In my 4Runner, "Auto" is what I stayed in. Just set the temp where I want, no worries. The 4runner also wouldn't start blowing until the vehicle was warmed up, so you didn't get hit with cold air. Makes sense. In my Lexus if I set the auto to say, 82*... it immediately starts blowing like its wide open and its cold air. We drove to town, car had been running for 20 mins probably, and in auto we were still getting chilled air through the dash vents even thought the Climate screen showed only the floor vents were on. The car eventually heated up, and coming home it seemed to act fairly normal though it still blew cold air until it got warm in auto.. (the 4runner wouldn't even attempt to blow anything until it had warm air ready). My buddy was confused too, he said his Lexus with basically identical settings doesn't act that way at all. My water temps climbed to normal operating range fairly quickly. It isn't Alaska out here, but cold for our neck of the woods. There just seems to be something strange with my system.

Any thoughts? Like I said, the heater DOES work, this just seems to be more of a ECU/logic issue.

i noticed that too on mine. You need to turn the temperature setting quite high before you get some real heat out of it..

Yep. And even so, I had been driving the car for a while before we felt any warmth. After feeling warmth, it actually went back to cool air a couple of times if we were at a red light. Also didn't understand why if we set it to blow in the floor, NOT in Auto, it still blew cold air out of the top vents. Very annoying.
Coming home though it had us sweating lol. So confusing.

Check your coolant level, and check the coolant pump for signs of leaking. It should not do this.

If you had the coolant changed there could be air in the system and it should be bled. This happened to my Bimmer. I'm not sure if it's the same type of system.

I'm having this same issue also. I set my auto to 84 degrees and it blew icy cold air.

Default Climate Control

Does the 2nd Gen IS use servo control mixers for the climate control? I changed out both of mine on my RX.

I don't know about you guys but when I first got my car my ac/heater was set on auto, and it would blow like crazy even after I manually turn it down. I took mine off auto to stop it from blowing on full blast and I never had an issue since then and have no problems with my car heating up maybe it was just a fluke.
