Yet another noobie ISF power question
Hi folks, I know this has probably been asked many times before on the forum..but my priority is a bit different so I am hoping someone can shed some light to help a noobie out
So I switched my ISF exhaust back to stock and I am very happy with its decibel level. On the outside it still sounds a bit deep and sporty (tho not very v8 like), but on the inside it's quiet enough.
I currently have a takita intake inherited as-is with the car as the only mod. I am not sure whether the lack of noise gave me illusions that the car lost power, but I am pretty sure I did when I switched the high flow custom catback system back to OEM.
Now my question is, how do I get more power without sabotaging the noise level or the ability to pass CA smogs? I am not looking for too much as I understand there's not much to be done with a Lexus V8 N/A. I would be happy with 10+ or above.
To be honest I can accept a bit more noise (I do agree ISF stock is a bit too quiet for a V8), approximately another 10-15% increase in noise and droning without getting annoyed by it on a daily basis.
What options do I have? does Borla axle back give me any substantial gains (runs around $1000)? how about the magnaflow systems? does it make sense to do a header only upgrade?
Thanks all

take off secondary cats but leave the oem rear mufflers on. you wont get a check engine light. from what ive read and heard, the oem mufflers do a great job keeping the car quiet even after headers or cat deletes. it sounds quieter than muffler deletes, thats for sure.

You could also sell off the Takeda intake and replace it with an uprated intake and panel filter?
Pretty sure the Takeda robs around 5HP over stock, and the uprated intake, stock airbox and panel filter can give 5-8HP.
You lose the intake sound, but gain in terms of performance and economy.
I saw a loss of around 3-5 MPG when I installed the Takeda on my car.
You can also get exhausts with a valve setup to make the exhaust quieter or louder? Might be what you are looking for?
Hope this helps.

The only real power upgrade ur gonna feel the difference in is adding headers. An axle back Borla will yield nothing u can feel at all and is a waste of $$ IMO. Even a full cat back like a Joe Z or Borla won't really make u feel a difference. I loved my Joe Z by itself, car sounded great but when I added my headers is when I actually felt a noticeable difference in power but it's very loud. If I were u I would add headers and keep the exhaust stock. It won't be loud and will yield all the power ur looking for and then some

Thanks for the input guys
Mrd916 when you say upgrade header, is the cat still in there for emissions purpose?
PDP180180 yes I was actually surprised to find out about the stock intake. I have half of it missing though, having got the car as is...Sigh....all I have is the half that takeda reuses, a stock intake pipe, clamps...
Looking to revert back to stock for the hp and mpg...mpg is big for me one of the reasons for getting this car over the others

I don't have cats cause I'm in Florida and no emission checks. I'm not the expert on headers with stock exhaust so not sure about the factory cats working. I know u can def weld in high flow cats if u had to.

Don't even bother asking Lexus! New prices are ridiculous.
I foolishly gave mine away to another owner when we discovered his was damaged.
An expensive mistake!
Hope you get it sorted.
Cheers.
