Default question for those who have 3M blackout window trim tape

for any of you that have applied this on your car.......

there is already some factory black tape that runs horizontally along the bottom of the window trim chrome, did you guys pull this off and apply the 3M or did you simply apply it over?

also, any other tips to apply?

thanks!

I applied over the black trim that is inside the chrome. The inner edge of the tape is over the black trim, however it isn't at all noticeable, especially if you lay it on straight. The only challenging part is getting it to look nice around the curve of the rear windows. You'll most likely need to do what I did and apply it in two sections, one for the top and one for the bottom, meeting in the center of the curve. There is too much of a bend in that part of the rear window trim to stretch the tape over it properly getting full coverage and avoiding any inner creases.

Also, I used the tape that Outmotoring sells for the Mini Cooper. I can't remember the actual brand, but I'm thinking if yours is 3M you may have something different that what I used.

The Outmotoring tape is 3M. You can only buy it in bulk and out motoring splits that up into shorter sections. I think you will have to get 2 of em from Outmotoring (its been a while sisnce I have done mine). I applied mine on a hot day in 1 section, I had to work it to get it to lay flat on the rear corner but it eventually did. The part that was a PITA was the very front cornerof the front windows by the rear view mirror.

To answer the OP's question I also applied it over, you cant see the seperation at all.

I love mine although I will more likely peel mine off and redo it though.

tahnk you guys, yeah to confirm it its the outmotoring 3m tape i got.

i guess i will apply it on the passenger side first for practice. im wondering though if i mess it up if i'll be able to pull it off without also pulling up the factory tape that is already there? guess it won't matter, but seems like it might leave gummy residue.

v8sten, car looks great, i personally think it makes the car look sooooooo much better. i like to refer to it as eyeliner, ha.

thanks for the tips guys. any up close pics would be apprecaited too! :0

Question

I see the tape is available in 2 widths, 1/2" & 5/8". Which width would be best for the ISF?

So the 5/8" would give some wiggle room?
