Hey guys.. so i woke up to my car this am and noticed the back right shock seems to have deflated? lowering the back right wheel well to within an inch, raising the front right fender to about 4 inches.

Can anyone tell me what the heck could have happened? is this safe to drive to the shop? There's no rubbing, but it's really close. Can i fix this myself?

Is it under warranty?

Yes, take it to the dealer.
No, time for some coil overs or buy the shock and replace it.

Yes it's ok to drive it to the dealer or shop.

Yeah, you're still fine to take it to the shop or dealer. If it's out of warranty, I would go with coilovers, as yjk1975 mentioned. It will cost probably just as much to replace the shock at the dealer with labor as getting new coilovers. Be safe and take precaution driving to the dealer. And if you're decided on getting coilovers, there are some great forum vendors who sell them for forum pricing, so inquire with those distributors. Best of luck, my friend!

Shocks do not dictate ride height.. springs do. The shock can not hold up the weight of the car. Just an FYI.

Maybe the perch the spring sits on broke off.

The pressure in the shocks does affect ride height. The thing to look for is fluid leakage at the rod/body interface.

Yup, those suckers are under pressure. Never toss one in a fire, shoot it, or puncture by other means.

The factory service manual actually says to drill a hole in it before discarding to discharge the gas safely. It also says to be certain to wear eye protection when you do this as metal chips are going to be flying around at high rates of speed when you break through.
