Default Add another car to the list of cars we shouldn't mess with...

Admittedly, I haven't been paying much attention to the new M3/M4 or following the press releases and specs being published across the internet. I do still get a host of car mags though (once you sign up for one subscription it's like they never stop coming!) and the cover of the latest Motor Trend or Road and Track or something like that has the new M3 sedan at 3.8 seconds 0-60 and 12.1 in the quartermile.

Despite what Lexus says, the M3 is still the benchmark for performance luxury sedans, and without the M3 there would have probably never been an ISF. There are a host of other reasons why I would not get a BMW over a Lexus, but if we're looking at straight performance, I'm really hoping the next gen ISF (if they ever build one) and the RCF isn't going to let itself fall behind.

Pretty amazing stuff for a car that bases at $64K and will be optioned well for $70K, particularly since we know the M3 is even better on a road course than it is in a straight line.

I was hoping for a good story.

That said, compare apples to apples please. The new M3 should be compared to the new RCF. Not the 7 year old ISF.

Yeah, Motor Trend clocked the new M3/M4 at 12.1 @ 117/119mph, crazy times and a huge performance boost from the E9X M3.

For the new "Toyota" performance cars coming out within 1-2 years, I honestly doubt any of them will be doing low 12's near 120mph, let alone sub 4 seconds to 60.... RCF definitely won't be providing those time given the weight, non turbo engine, and still the old 8 speed auto trans that debut in 2007....

After the ISF, it's looking like all of us will have look into other brands for the next "upgrade" in performance. Toyota is just too slow in producing performance cars....ISF was 3 years too late, LFA was 6 years too late (Carrera GT, high rev V10), and that's pretty much it.....

If Toyota does come out with an F80 M3/M4 "ISF" competitor, it will be at least 3+ years from now, by which time, the counterparts will be refreshed mid model life. And still waiting for the new 4L turbo8 in the upcoming AMG C63.

As much as I enjoy owning and driving the ISF, like so many others here, next progression will be GTR, used 911 turbo, GT3, upcoming Corvette Z06, heck, even the 600hp+ Dodge Challenger Hellcat......

Lol I could careless. Our car is old and I'm going to enjoy it for what it is. I'm actually glad that the ISF with headers and exhaust will hang all day with the new M3/M4. You can't ask more for a 7 years old car! I'm excited to see what the new RC F is going do. In a few years, I pray for a turbo v8 GSF so I can upgrade to a roomier Lexus sport sedan

too bad it sounds like a ricecan and has to play synthetic engine sound in the cabin. Have to get a $4300 package to get keyless push start and back up camera, $3600 for full leather. A lot of the E92 V8 M3s laugh at the new M. No doubt it is fast though

The M4 should be compared to the RC-F. The 3 is the four door. But you're right...doesn't like lexus is going to provide an 'apple' for it to be compared to...

Human nature is an amazing thing...

I remember when I got the F in September, and how giddy I was driving every day. I still enjoy it ALL the time I am driving it, but it's just typical human behavior to always want something we don't have. Luckily, the F still gives me a semi pretty much every day!

I'll bet a brand new M3/M4 or RCF would produce the same giddiness for a finite amount of time - until we convince ourselves that we need something faster. I mean, logically speaking, every passing year means technology will render a person's current car more and more obsolete. Even mass-produced cars are breaching what was 'serious performance' just a few years ago.

We are all boys (and girls) with toys...

Some you guys are misunderstanding my post. I still love the ISF and have no plans to replace it anytime soon. I was however slightly shocked to see the numbers the new M3 is putting down, and hopeful the next gen ISF keeps pace (if they make one that is). Sub 4 second 0-60 used to be a time reserved for supercars or big block muscle cars.

The exhaust note kills it for me. Synthetic exhaust note is just a no-no in my book. If I wanted fast, I would just get a GTR. I'll no doubt give it a test drive when it comes to Australia but it's not going to be my dream car by any stretch of the imagination. BMW doesn't come anywhere near to Lexus in terms of build quality, yes I have owned both, it would have to be something very special to make me move. Moreover, in Australia, you get the BMW tax which makes the M3/M4 around $30k more than the ISF. I assume the same markup will apply for the RCF.

The tranny on the RCF is not identical. I suggest that we all hold with conclusive opinions until the spec is released.

Also, I predict that BMW will CONTINUE to have problems with their turbo-charged rides...as they did last year.

The new M4 dyno somewhere around 420-430 rwhp which equates to about 500 hp at the crank... and it's got gobs of torque down low. No wonder it's doing 12.1@119

I commented on the other thread about the 427whp DCT tranny M3. I think it's a bit night. Maybe 20whp high. Caymandive ISF made 403whp , still heavier than the new M3/4, can get 11.9 and 118+ on street tires. I think the realistic number on the DCT M should be 400whp. DCT drive train lost is similar to auto, and our auto shifts slower too
