Question Does your exhaust shoot flames?

Another thread reminded me of a video I found on instagram.

It's an ISF in Jeddah KSA (same city I'm in) he has SIKKY headers and a custom exhaust and magnaflow mufflers I think and in the video his car shoots flames has anyone else experienced this before?

I only have headers and never thought the car could shoot flames with an exhaust added.

From asking him about his car he says all he's done is exhaust and headers.

If you are fully catless there is always the possibility of shooting flames if you are running rich.

too much heat will ignite the O2 in the air. With that much added flow and no cats Id say we could all do it if we push the car hard enough

When I was a kid, a million years ago, some guys would put a pivot on the tail pipe and put a spark plug on it. They would wire the plug up to a plug wire in the engine bay. They hooked up a cord to the pivot that led inside to the driver. When he wanted to shoot flames, he pulled on the cord, the plug would flip up into the gas flow and when it fired, it would shoot flames back. Very impressive back then.

i asked this same question some time ago... some said if you're squeezing, you'll get flames out the back.

but on cars like the Mclaren P1, i'm sure is not running catless yet it still shoots flames. why is that?

the aventador, as well...

i would guess that, with them being mid-engined cars, the shorter length of the exhaust piping contributes.

shorter exhaust piping = less cooling as the exhaust is vented to atmosphere = hotter pipes coming in contact with unused gas in exhaust (rich) = flames

Yes this is possibly the most logical reason to be honest.

It gets hot as hell here, even today it's freaking boiling....nasty weather

you guys should look at the video on instagram, he only shoots flames when he shifts from 3rd to 4th and he's red lining the car the whole way.

Maybe it's the "custom" exhaust.

Jay Leno explains why the P1 has so many exhaust flames. Check out the video in the attached link around the 17:30 mark where he explains that fuel is still pumping even when off the gas to help with cooling the turbo resulting in the afterburner look.

I wish mine did

Take a look at this video, if you use YT's slow-mo feature you can see flames two separate times, more notably at the 43-44 second mark:

Here's a McLaren shooting flames for a few minutes, ended up melting the bumper
