I think I remember a member who had the side pieces trimmed. After being on the track I can only imagine that removing the plastic pieces would only aid in cooling.

I only run with all the underhood plastic removed. Especially the big heat trap on top of the engine.
Some people have cut the plastic (see example below for the TOMS shock tower bar) but not sure how easy it is to do and how many attempts it took them...LOL
I cut my side plastics to fit the Cusco bar. It's easy to do with a body saw or dremel. The Cusco bar clears the top engine cover and it's easy enought to unbolt 1 side of the bar from the mount to swing it up and pull the top engine cover on race days.
