Default ISF Oil Change

Have been going to dealer to get oil changes. Finally got around to doing it myself. Cost wise it's about the same, but doing it myself I know it's getting done and getting done right.

First the oil pan is easy to get to, 14mm nut, easy...

The filter is behind a plastic panel held in by 10mm bolts near the front of the car. Having never changed a cartridge type filter before I used some foil around the under tray to keep from making a mess. Didn't end up needing it.

The filter socket I had to buy from Lexus for $30, online it's $16 but I didn't have time to wait. It fits like a key almost...

Cracked open the filter case with a 3/8 wrench, here it is dribbling out, I would say maybe 1/2 quart in there ...

Here is a pic of the filter in the cartridge...

All cleaned up with new rubber seal that comes with the filter...

With new OEM filter...make sure to lube the rubber o ring...

Need to clean the receiver end as well...

Tighten the cartridge back on hand tight with wrench to 25 Nm. 9.8 qts of 5w30 Mobil synth went in. Pretty easy to do. Having a lift helps...

But definitely not required!

Who the hell has a lift in their damn garage. That is just not right. How many years I've spent on my damn back thinking I had died and gone to heaven when I was able to finally buy my first creeper.

I have two lifts in my garage but I don't have a GTR sitting next to my ISF!

Doing the oil changes myself is pretty routine, and so much more rewarding than just letting the dealer work on it and charge me a good amount. But having it on a lift saves me from the headaches of using a jack, worrying about clearance of that jack from the side, and the semi-cramped space from having to do it all on the floor. But yes, our F's take nearly 10 quarts, or 2 full jugs of at any given Wal-Mart, Target, Auto Zone, etc.

thanks NZK! This will also be my first experience with a cartridge type filter as well. My shipment of filters should be here by this afternoon and I'll aim to get this done by tomorrow! These pics are a nice preview of what I'll be looking at while lying on the floor of my garage- first time I'll be getting it on the jackstands, and while I am under there I can also investigate that annoying exhaust squeek I hear over bumps and potholes...

Lift is relatively cheap, $1999 shipped from Costco. Has paid for itself in 6 months with all the work I have done on it.

that's actually not a bad price considering . I did find a site some time ago with different variations in lifts which prices were below 2k.

on a side note I had no idea the F took 10qts. such a beast lol.
