This is the same thing mine did. Replacing the tensioner and serpentine belt made it stop. I really strongly doubt it's valve lash. All mine were well within spec when I checked them.

I'm the guy that had the entire engine rebuilt.
It was definitely different than a tick, that is normal. This was an intermittent knock that was not temperature dependent.
They replace my belt and tensioner, made no difference.
During the rebuild they found the springs were failing and replaced them all. The new springs they ordered were different than the ones they took out (same part number, different paint markings on the spring, dealer suspected they were heat treated differently).
After rebuild the car gained power and ran smoother. The suspicion is the problem is related to this: http://www.examiner.com/article/toyo...engine-problem
It has been 20K mi since the rebuild and the motor has never made the sound again.

It was a headache but I'm happy now and the car runs strong. I have a 10/100K Lexus Platinum warranty I bought myself and that keeps me confident.

Hope all works out for you!

That's normal even with a 12k mile OCI.

For some reason this has seemed to fix my problem. I also asked about the passenger side valves and they said that those were also in spec but in the middle of the spec.

Man I didn't realize how much better the ISF is over the '14 IS250 I was driving. I do like the steering wheel better in the 2014, I wonder if it would fit in my F?

could you tell me more about valve clearance adustment ?

was this done by computer ? something like diagnostic computer ?

or

dissemble valve body and screw or unscrew valve?

help me plz

Default Slight ticking noise from drivers side valve cover area

I was at a drive thru and heard an unusual ticking noise so i pulled over popped the hood and heard the ticking coming from the drivers side valve cover. It doesnt constantly tick but when it warms up it seems to happen, currently have a fbo rr tuned 08 isf with 109k miles. Car runs normally i dont feel any power loss or anything but this ticking noise is worrying me. Could it be valve related. Im almost certain it isnt the injectors since ive had an is250 and am pretty used to how DI injectors sound, this is different. Every 5k miles i do an oil change with mobil1 full synthetic high mileage so ive kept pretty up to date on basic maintenance

Are you sure the header is tight on the head? Could be an exhaust leak. Could be the cam chain tensioner for the short chain on bank 1, there is a revised part for this. Could be the HPFP. Lots of possibles.
