You guys are inspiring me... considering driving up to Canada to visit the grandparents this weekend. Should I cover the front with 3M blue painters tape? It's only a 7 hour drive.

I mean i drove 21 hrs and no chips ect... just road kill (bugs) i would had cover mines for the long trip, however i didnt want to use tape at the last minute.

IS-F was great indeed!

it really depends on your driving habits and the roads. last year i made a road trip from california bay area down south to santa monica. interstate 5 is a two lane road and i'm flying past 55mph 18-wheelers at 85mph and i stretched the engine out to 120mph+ a few times. my front bumper and hood looked like a horror show after that and another trip. lots of rock chips, some of them really deep. i had to have the front of my car repainted and i called it a lesson learned. next road trip, i'm taping up and keeping my distance from other vehicles.

I just made a 1700 mile drive from Seattle to MN flying through Montana and North Dakota with only bugs and no chips. I am thinking to get the 3M paint defender clear bra spray for the trip home.

I make trips from NY to VA and back every two months or so, about 5 hours each way. I have a lot of paint ships on the bottom part of the front bumper but they are only noticeable up close, like at one or two feet from the car. I don't tape up the car because it would be impractical for my situation and because I really don't like how the car looks with all that tape. I'll eventually re spray the front bumper when it gets really bad.

So the paint defender just washes off? I understand the "clear coat safe" aspect, but that doesn't seem like it will be too friendly to the wax. For those who have used it, do you just re-wax the front end afterwards?

My front-end has quite a few rock chips....and I think bug guts is part of the culprit too. I think I'll spend the $10 or so and tape it up so it doesn't get worse. In a few years I will definitely get the front hood, fenders, bumper and mirrors resprayed. Gonna have some fun with the tape and write something on the car as well.

It appears that you can peel it off but otherwise you can just keep it on like a clear bra
