Jiffy Lube, if you go to these kinds of places you deserve to get scammed. i mean seriously did you really think the guys at these places are honest or even know what they are doing? Pure joke. When I was younger I went to one of these places to get my oil changed, as I was clueless on car maintenance long story short the idiot drained my oil and put tranny fluid in. Then to top it off used the wrong drain plug and stripped my oil pan. My suggestion is go make a relationship with a independent car mechanic and use them.

I contacted the local Lexus dealer and they wanted $50 to change my oil if I provided the oil and filter. No thanks... I change my own oil and my garbage service provides oil jugs to recycle my used oil on trash days!

Exactly what I do. I also order filters and washers from Sewell and supply those as well. My Lexus dealer is totally on board, they place the unused bottles in the trunk. $35.

Default You can get scammed anywhere!

I've brought Costco-purchased Mobil 1 into my Lexus dealer and they've gladly installed it for me (at least that's what I choose to believe).

I also had an occassion to go to Walmart to have the oil in a previously owned car changed and requested Mobil 1 to be installed. The car took 5.5 quarts of oil. I was watching the service tech install the first five quarts of oil when he reached down and, while looking around suspiciously, picked up a container of some off-brand oil. As he started to put in the off-brand oil, I tapped loudly on the window and caught his attention. He looked like a deer in the headlights as he attempted to find the sixth quart of Mobil 1 to complete the job. Needless to say I never went back there again..... for anything!

I have an independent mechanic and friend that does all of the things at his shop that I don't want to do myself. I fully trust him and his shop and I've even worked on previous cars with him in the shop. I provided him the oil and filter and he did my last oil change and my springs install for $75.

I'm at the point now where I don't enjoy wrenching on cars like I used to in my 20s. It's more of a chore than a hobby for me now. I used to do everything... fluids, suspension, bolt-ons, even did some forced induction work and clutches. I don't have the patience to sit in a garage to do that stuff now. Maybe if I had a lift.

I change my own oil in less time than it would take me to drive to the dealership. Problem solved.

And I hear you on some of the other stuff, vbb. Back in my last teens and 20's when I had nothing better to do, working on my car all day was enjoyable and it filled my time. Brakes, suspension, exhaust, fluid flushes, hose replacements, 8 hour detail jobs, you name it. Now if I have a something that's going to be more than maybe an hour or two of work, I realize that my free time is worth more than what I would pay to have a shop do it for me. But I don't think I'll ever stop doing my own oil, I can literally do that in 10 minutes and it would take me longer than that just to drive to a place to get it done (and sit and wait while they do it, and pay more).

Just oil and an oil filter if you want to change it yourself. Air filter is totally different and you only need to change/clean that every other oil change at most.
