Default 2011 Shock Absorbers

2011 Shock Absorbers

My rear shocks were making some noise on speed humps back in January. They were replaced under warranty and the noise disappeared.
I have the same noise coming back and they will have to be replaced again!

Is there a difference between the 11 and 12 Shock Absorbers? The part numbers for 2011 is 48530-80566

I remember reading somewhere that the 2012 had new shocks. If so, is it wise to ask the dealer to fit the new ones?

2011 here as well with ~15k miles and noticed the noise as well going over speed bumps. A "clunk" in the rear somewhere. I'll take it in for warranty repair and see if the issue returns after some time.

My 2010 was suffering from a suspension rattle under certain low speed compressions. The dealer examined and my strut was leaking so it wouldn't rebound properly over all bumps allowing it to rattle through part of it's travel. It was replaced and it's been fine since. Only thing is I don't think there is anyway to diagnose the problem for a leaking strut without it's removal from the car.

Thanks for the confirmation.... I jacked up the rear end and removed the tire; didn't see any fluids leaking from the strut. Made an appointment Monday and will post results soon.

Guys, we don't have struts anywhere on the car. We have Shock Absorbers as stated in the title of this thread

To my knowledge, my 2012 came with upgraded ZF shocks.

I am having this problem with my '08, the front driver's shock rattles when driving at low speeds and going over small bumps (imperfection in the road, speed bumps, etc). I took it in to the dealer and they said they think it's a body panel rattling and that's not covered under my extended warranty. They didn't even test or examine the shocks at all, they just did a test drive and that's the conclusion they reached. They told me if I wanted them to take the shock out and examine they could do that, but if it ends up not being the problem then I would need to pay 2.5 hours of labor @ $135/hr, so I declined at the time. But it's getting worse and worse, so obviously it isn't just a body panel and sounds like it's probably a leaking shock. So thanks for the info, I think I'll take it back and have them look at it again!

I need to know the p/n of the 12 shoks to compare it to the 11 one.
Does any one know the p/n?

It is a MT 45/13 ZF monotube shock absorber. I do not have the part number. Call Lexus parts.

That is what my dealer said as well (well not the body panel being the problem) but I had to agree to pay for the labor for them to diagnose it b/c they wouldn't do it on their own. They pulled it off and it was the shock leaking so I didn't have to pay for the labor as it was warrantied.

The 2.5 hours of labor is BS though. I had to agree to 1 hour of labor to do my front passenger side.

Dropped the car off this morning and got it back already. Technician drove it around and could hear the slight clunk when going over speed bumps, but not duplicate it all the time. Took a test drive with the technician, and was unable to duplicate the noise on all speed bumps. Weather was much warmer today as compared to the past few weeks, so maybe it's more noticeable during the winter. Shock was not removed, no signs of fluids, etc.

I was wondering would driveability be affected if a shock was slightly bad? I don't notice any instability at normal\high speeds, or hard cornering. Damping and body control seems unaffected most of the time, but that could be because rear tires are almost worn out.
