Default 2 questions about DRL (08 ISF)

I have an 08 ISF with the old HIDs and not the LEDs. I have 2 questions:

1 - When I have my headlights on, I still see some light from the DRL area. It doesn't look like the bulb is on, but there's a DRL-colored reflection or something still on. I think the yellowish DRLs look awful so I always drive with my headlights on. But with the headlights on and then some dull DRL lighting too...it annoys me.

Is this normal? Can any of you 08's post pics with your headlights on for comparison?

2 - I know a dealer can turn off DRL but is that something I can do myself through the magical-secret nav menus (like the ones where you can adjust bluetooth sensitivity, etc.)?

The pics below make it look worse than it actually is (the camera really seemed to pick up light off the reflections). If I were to have just the DRL on it's way brighter so this is either a reflection or just less power going to them.

The little light in the drl area when your headlights are on are wedge bulbs that are separate from the actual DRL bulbs. It's an easy change if you want them another color.

Yeah there's a wedge bulb on the upper corner of each cup. You can either pull them out or replace them with LEDs if you want them to match the HIDs.

As for the DRL, the only way I know of that's DIY is to pull the high beam fuse inside the fuse box under the hood but obviously you will lose high beam functionality. Take it to the dealer to have them disable it properly.

1. like everyone else said above, its the parking light that is on when u have your low beams on. you can change them to led white if you prefer. the size for that bulb is 194.

2. I don't think anyone else can turn it off unless they are using the same software as the dealer. No, unless you have access to their software and tools.

The Parking Light bulb goes on with One Click on the stalk.. Or its alwyas ON in Auto.. (at the right time)

Bulb swap or remove the bulb... Very simple..!!

I've always wondered...isn't there a switch that tells if handbrake is on or off? Can't we use that to fool the car into thinking the handbrake is on even though it's not?

I'm gonna check sometime this weekend

If you want to live with the incessant dinging noise, try it. It will make PLENTY of noise if you set the switch closed even without the brake actually on.

I hate the DRLs too and also drive with my HIDs on all the time.

I had asked my dealer one time to turn the DRLs off, but the service rep told me it was CA law and required? Is this true or did I get played

You got played. I had mine turned off on my IS350 at Sacramento Lexus on the first service for free. When they tell you this BS, ask them to show you where in the vehicle code it says this. They'll stumble around and then just say "we don't want to do it because we never did it before" which is the truth, not some BS about it being California law.

I got the same run around with Lance. They were lecturing me about how having the DRLs were a safety precaution. Dealers have done it before, but they want to make sure they absolve all responsibility so that it can't come back to hurt them.

To answer LiLS question, the DRL delete is part of the Lexus Personalized Settings that you as an owner can choose to have done. I think you have 30 days from the date you take delivery, or essentially when you come back for the 1,000 mile check-up. After that period, I'm not sure what dealers charge, but I have heard anywhere from $50 to $100.
