Default What do you think this **** is?

Hi, I just bought a used 2012 ISF nebula gray with 7000 miles and loaded for $49k. You guys think that was a good deal.

Anyways there is this **** right next to the slippery car symbol. I think it's some sort of aftermarket thing. But I can't figure it out. Maybe the **** was left but whatever it controlled taken out. What do you guys think?

Oh yeah it turns like a dial left to right with a midpoint.

Thats really strange. Have you been able to notice what its changing. If the car had an aftermarket sub in it at one time it could be used to control that. I have no idea though.

Doesn't look like it was installed very well. Have you tried pulling the black plug out of the dash and seeing if there are any wires or anything else connected to it?

Yeah, I'm going to look and see if it goes anywhere. No it doesn't seem to control anything. My first thought was a radar/laser device.

If I had to guess, I would say it once adjusted the power of a sub-woofer in the trunk. It's definitely sloppy looking and I would get rid of it asap. Take her apart and follow the wire. It should be a fun adventure.

edit: and 49k for a 2012 with 7,000 miles is an incredible deal. you should pat yourself on the back.

Thanks. My plan is to follow it. If nothing then definitely taking it out.

It definitely is an eye sore as is. Not sure what it could be. I haven't seen anything related to the F where one would need to fab a dial holder aside from some aftermarket subs, as others have mentioned. Hopefully you'll find resolution soon.

If it doesn't change anything, I seriously suggest you look into getting the Apexi Throttle Controller! Best $200 bucks you will spend!

I think it's a volume dial for a hidden radar/laser detector. It probably was taken out and the owner didn't go through the trouble of taking it out.

My guess is that it was an aftermarket subwoofer amp gain control. To be certain, you can check out your ML amp underneath the right tray in the trunk to determine if any wires were cut or tapped into... GL bro!
