Help!!! Need some Headlight info
Alright guys. a few weeks ago my left headlight low beam went out. I thought that it was the bulb. so i ordered the OEM HID bulb to replace it but it didn't work. so i took it in to a lexus dealership and had them look at it. I just got a phone call from the shop and they told me it was the headlight ECU and it will cost me $1400 to replace the entire head lamp. I was about to get a heart attack when they told me this. what is headlight ECU. Does this sound efy to you guys? I'd appreciate any advice. thanks.

Sounds like a Ballast... Which they will tell you is not sold seperately....
Try picking one up from Sewell Lexus in Texas.. I know they have a bunch of IS ballasts on hand..

that's what exactly they told me. They don't sell it seperately and I have to buy the whole headlight assembly. I'm looking it up at sewell right now. do you know part # ???

Verify your year..I just pulled these randomly. Might want to check Ebay as well.

This is your head light ballast attached to a bulb.
You need to remove the bumper and then the headlight assembly to access it. The ballast is located at the bottom of each headlight assembly.
If you are not capable of purchasing a replacement ballast and doing all of this work yourself then you will need to pay someone to do it for you and it will cost some labor dollars.
If you had a HID ECU - then I'm certain both of your headlights, marker, turn signals, AFS and auto leveling systems would also be non functional.
I would get another opinion, if its not covered under warranty

thanks digger08 for the pix. I know for a fact that all of the things you mentioned above are working except the low beam headlights. turn signals and right headlights are all operational. I'm just hoping it's the ballast. I ordered one from sewell. it's way cheaper than buying the entire headlamp assembly.
