Default BMW E92 M3 vs Lexus IS-F. BMW blows an engine

Bad day...

Reliability was one of the primary reasons I bought another Lexus vs the BMW options out there. This isnt a BMW vs Lexus bash post, just a newly posted video I figured might be of interest

Ouch! The M was pretty much stock except for an exhaust. I think the owner was more worried about the front lip scraping the bed towards then end of the video. Sucks to have all that happen just for a little drag race.

Yeah, there is something more to that video then just that. I'm not saying BMW comes close to lexus in the reliability dept, but I drove my 08 M3 for 67k miles and I drove it hard!!!!!! Only problems had was a couple of check engine lights for increased emissions. I have had my ISF for 3 weeks now and already had to take it in twice. Once for vanity lights in passenger mirror not turning on and a couple of days ago for the memory seats buttons not working. Still love my ISF more though....

Gotta be a misshift. If the IS-F wasn't dummy proof (it won't let you downshift when you're past a certain RPM level so you over rev), I'm sure you'd see some Lexus guys doing the same thing. Agreed the IS-F is more reliable than the M3, but not for the reasons shown in the vid.

Stupid question but havnt tried it and always wondered... soo if youre going 50 you cant down**** all the way down to 1 or 2? i was always cautious downshifting to get a perfect RPM for racing.. lol

Not a stupid question at all. It won't let you downshift to a gear/speed where you will rev the engine over the speed limit. Brilliant, just like the audible beep to shift up, 8 gears etc which everybody at first was criticizing and now are copying
