I weighed my ISF today
I am wondering how Lexus got the 3780 pounds for our cars.
The stats:
2012 ISF Nebula Grey (all stock)
-Nav/ML
-Park Assist
-Full trunk (spare, jack, tools, mat, net)
-Floor mats
-NO sunroof
-Removed owner's manual (hey, it weighs like 3 pounds)
-And I filled up the gas tank and gently/slowly drove to the weigh station exactly one mile away for a total of........ 3800 pounds even (no, I was not sitting in the car).
I figure 6 pounds per gallon of gas in the 16.9 gallon tank (that I just filled up) is 101.4 pounds which puts me at about 3699 pounds.
I would like to track my car so I was thinking of the following weight reduction:
-muffler delete ~30 lbs
-remove trunk items (spare, jack, etc) ~35 lbs
-remove plastic engine panels ~10 lbs
-light weight battery / ToothDoc special ~40 lbs
-wheels and two piece rotors might add up to another ~50 lbs
What do you think?
Car was weighed at "E-Z Weigh Truck Center" in City of Industry, CA.
@@@@@@@@ FYI (10-09-12) @@@@@@@@
I made this thread for two reasons:
1. as a comparison between my car (loaded/stock) and what Lexus gave as the car's weight.
2. I am NOT making this a track car, but what I can do lose weight for a track day. I found several very helpful threads about weight reduction and these are my ideas to lose weight. Heck no I'm not stripping this car down!
And yes, I know, the best performance mod is tightening the nut behind the steering wheel!

If it's your daily driver, don't bother with the muffler delete and engine panels. Not worth the very small gains for the cost in daily refinement (the loudness will get annoying on any long drives). The rest is fine - I would definitely get some new wheels to make the car your own.

Gut the trunk, take out the rear seats, and remove the engine covers if you want to Drag your car. All these are easy to remove and re-install for quick weight reduction.
I believe cayman weighed the trunk items (Spare, Jack, Etc) and came up with 89lbs.
I weighed 40lbs when I took out the rear seats and some seatbelt equipment.
I need to weigh my car, but im predicting its going to be in the 35xx range.

I've weighed various items out of curiosity and the more small stuff you can remove the better. It adds up!
-7 lbs - All the engine covers
-6 lbs- Trunk mats
-3 lbs- owners manual
-36 lbs- spare/jack/tools
-5 lbs- floor mats
So right there in just a few minutes you can remove 57 lbs prior to racing. To go further you can do exhaust, coilovers, a lightweight battery option or even invest in some lightweight racing seats.
Additional weight I've removed:
-10 lbs saved by using BC Coilovers
-16 lbs saved with the Borla
-28 lbs saved by using the Odyssey PC680 15 lb battery
Total weight removed: 111 lbs!

Wait wait wait, a stock 2012 IS-F weights around 3800 lbs? so 1,724 kg?
Why do they state everywhere else that it's close to 1,800 kg? and I've heard more in other places.

No, I'm not selling them. But you can DIY and I'll help you if you want.
One note, the overall capacity isn't high so you can't just keep your electronics on for hours and hours. It's only about 12 amp hours - but it'll crank 1000 amps for short bursts.
