Default 10K service, and I need what!!!???

Well I just came from the Lexus dealer to perform the 10K service. I asked about the TSB for the front brake pads, they were going to check. When I talk to the service rep, he told me that the car needed brake pads and rotors!!!! A car with 10K!?!? And to my good luck, the TSB doesnt cover me cause the pads are wore 1mm below the limit to cover!!! Seriously!?!?

Does this sounds alright to you?? I cant fraking belive this BS!!!!

Unless you drive everywhere with your emergency brake on I don't see how that is possible. Im at 11k and nowhere near needing new pads or rotors.

You can take off your wheels and see how thick your pads are...that's #1

Also...front OEM rotors under normal driving conditions should last you 30-40k miles. OEM front rotor thickness 30mm new, minimum thickness 28mm

Front pads last around 25-35k. New pads 9.8mm, minimum thickness 1.0mm

Rear pads lasted me almost 70k miles, and i'm still on my original rear rotors at 83k miles.

New rear pads 11.5mm, and minimum thickness is 1.0mm.

Rear brake rotor is 28mm new, 26mm minimum.

Time to learn how to do your own brakes so you don't get ripped off by the dealer...

Checking this is the first thing Im going to do when Im off Friday. I already started reading on rotors and pads DIY they have around here. Yes, it is a good time to learn! Im pretty sure thats how the dealer put the shaft on people, but come on! How to tell me I need all that with 10k!?

I dont remember exactly how much its was, but definitely he said I was 1mm below the limit to be covered under the TSB. How convinient for them uh!

I was in disbelief and disturbed when he was talking

Straight from the Lexus IS F Factory Service Manual BTW...made a mistake, it's actually 30mm thickness for new front rotors not 32mm.

techinfo.toyota.com. All manuals for everything Scion/Toyota/Lexus for more than 20 years back.

Service manuals are pretty boring. The New Car Features books are pretty awesome.

I was wondering the same thing. Theres another about 50 miles, but I guess they must have the same owner and I think they might comunicate between each other...
