Does this type of carwash ruin tranny?
Hi, I went to a car wash where the hook a belt or something to the car and pull it through the carwash while you stand outside and watch it.
Does this ruin the transmission or anything else?
Thanks!

Haven't been to one in years. I either have my guy come do it or I do it my self.
I use this now

I have yet to see a "hook" that pulls your car. Its usually something you pull the car onto and your wheels fall into "holders" that will guide it through.
Also, I only advise the touchless car washes if you MUST take your car through one.
Look up "Optimum No Rinse" if you think that washing your car by hand takes too long.

Thanks everyone giving me advise in this thread. I'll make sure gear is in neutral. I'm not sure I have water only washes around here, but I'll keep my eye open.
Thanks!

Any type of pressure wash will wear down a wax coating very quickly. The brushes cause swirl marks as well. Keep in mind many car washes also use recycled water. If you ever watch the ones that have the guys at the end drying the cars off, watch what they do. They don't have a rhyme or reason to their patterns and their lack of technique also adds swirls and scratches. I have seen them go around the cars completing one side at a time including the wheels with the same drying towel, then go back to paint for the next side etc. This goes against all good detainers protocol.

What I usually do is take mine (1-2x a year) to a self car wash, spray it down, spray it with foam and use my own MF mitt that I bring. Don't use that brush people use to wash their rims, truck beds, etc. Then I do spot free rinse drive off. Cost me like $4.00
I've been to some where people must of cleaned out their truck bed. Nails, screws, and debris all over the place.
We even have some guys that come into my work to wash employee cars, they do hack work. Wiping down while talking on the phone. Cleaning rims first, then cleaning your paint. No one else washes my car because honestly other people (other than a few top level detailers) don't give a F. Qty over quality for them.

Much cheaper and easier to do it your self at home. If u live in a apt, I suggest the link I posted above. Also another person posted it.
