Default Water pump leaking possibly

I was checking my oil and was shining a light down by the pullies and noticed what looked like dried pink anti-freeze. I read the water pump thread about people having to have their leaking water pumps replaced. Its wierd because I have never smelt anti-freeze. The level might be a little lower, but not much. Is this a common problem? Is there anything else I could check? I called Lexus today and have an appointment with them next week and of course they said they never see water pump issues...lol

Thanks!

Yes, they leak, there is a new part number for the replacement, I my mind this denotes that Lexus is aware of a problems and has tried to resolve it.

Just ask them why there's a new part number for the water pump in their parts system. They don't randomly change part numbers and they don't randomly redesign working parts...

To check for coolant level after you get the car back.

This is a known problem on some 2008 F's. You said you saw pink coolant in the engine bay so I would say get it changed under warranty ASAP.

Keep in mind... "Some" Lexus dealerships rarely even see IS-F's for service......

Especially in cities where only handfuls exist...

No argument there, but the F isn't the only engine with that pump on it. Admittedly, the 5.0 liter V-8 isn't exactly a common Lexus engine, but still, the parts counter could figure this out in a couple of minutes, and any decent parts guy would see this instantly. What is really interesting is only the F has the redesigned part on it. All the 1UR and 2URs in other models are still using the original part number...

The plot thickens...

I took it in today and they said it was leaking and they are replacing it with a new one. I asked him about the new part number and he couldn't confirm if it was a different one or not. They had one in stock and our replacing it now. Hopefully its not the same one as is on it.

There's nothing "usual" to report in mileage... It can fail with 10K or with 60K..

If the part fails early, its clearly a manufacturing issue.

I think maintenance on recommend change out is every 90K miles.

The link I posted lists the new part number released in 2010.
