3k miles? I wish I could afford to burn money this way. I'd still run a 12k OCI because it's proven, but I'd surely smoke better cigars more often.

Oh, Joe, I'm running synthetic and spending slightly more than half what you are on a per mile basis, with less than 1/2 the risk of putting contaminants in my engine. Since I plan to keep the car for a long time, it's significant to me.

You guys leasing and planning to ditch the car in 2 or 3 years - run Wal-Mart's Supertech oil and change it at 5k. It meets Lexus's requirements and will be just fine for what you're doing.

You know I thought about running the synthetic this time around... But didn't..

I clock in 5,000 miles every 3 months or less...

So the oil is in & out pretty quickly..

That's the part I dislike most. Every time I open the fill cap, I risk dirt falling in. I'm totally **** about wiping everything down and being as sure as I can I don't get any dirt in the engine, but I still don't want to open the engine to contaminants any more often than absolutely essential. Dirt is the enemy - it turns perfectly good oil into perfectly good abrasives.

Do it yourself, run over to Walmart and pick up two of the large 5 quart containers of castrol synthetic edge 5w-30 for 30 bucks each, and go to autozone for a 7 dollar oil filter. Jack your car up, drain the oil, remove the oil filter, lower car, drive to local supermarket, purchase 36 pack of beer and have money to spare rather than pay for the oil change. 67 dollars isnt bad at all for a fully synthetic oil change on a car that holds what, 9.8 quarts! bam.

A genuine Toyota No. YZZA4 oil filter will cost you less than that, and it's a better oil filter to boot.

I just got my first oil change from the dealer . When I asked him what oil they use , he said Mobil one but that the ISF is not " certified synthetic " unlike the RX350 . He could not explain further. Can anyone explain what this means . Btw he did use synthetic .

Im not too sure about that...If the dealer said they dont put in full synthetic without evidence to back it up, I dont see why i wouldnt be "certified"..Im running synthetic in mine no problems : )

The dealer will use synthetic oil only if you requested it, and they'll charge you accordingly. I've been using Mobil 1 since the first oil change, I'm at 50k miles now and no issues at all.

I changed my oil over the weekend, my first time doing it on the F. I bought an oil filter wrench socket set which included a 65mm socket. It took me 15-20 minutes to change the oil. At the same time the oil was draining, I changed an HID bulb as well. Considering I'm out of warranty and put in Mobil 1, I wonder how much money I saved? I bought two HID bulbs off the classifieds for $50 and the filter and the oil for $60...

You should have bought your oil at Wal-Mart. My total materials cost for an oil change is right at $50 including oil, filter, and taxes.

I got quoted about $125, with synthetic oil (instead of 20k service). I plan to skip the 25k service, since it only encompasses roadtesting the vehicle (they probably whip your vehicle around and take it for a spin, literally) and inspecting brakes.

I bought mine "Certified Pre Owned" and got 2 years of Free Oil/filter changes every 5k mi. Their standard was only a few free oil changes but they were running a promotion at the time I bought my F. Otherwise I would do it myself.
