IS-F for $30k
Do you guys think it'll be possible to find an 08' with higher mileage for this price anytime soon? Most of the Fs on Cars.com, Autotrader, Ebay are all owned by dealers and the lowest I think you can find is about 34-35k right now. Is 30k from a private seller an unreasonable price you think at this point in time?

wow that's depreciation but all cars will eventually hit certain levels unless you own very unique cars that hold value pretty much indefinitely! Just wait another 6 months and the car will be in your budget. Or pony up and pay more for a nicer car, I would do the latter but that's up to you.

I bought my '08 w/45K miles with a clear title for $34.5K about 2 months ago. Mint condition. So deals are definitely out there.
The one SargeISF bought for $27K was in pretty poor condition and needed a lot of TLC, but if you don't mind putting in the time & money that might not be such a bad thing. His car looks MINT now and he spent a hell of a lot less than he would have had he bought one in that condition.

Yeah, I thought so! I actually went to the dealer intending to test drive a 335i that they had, and while I was there I saw the ISF. I had actually never even heard of it before and I asked if I could take it out for a drive, and that was the end of the hunt for a new car!
The reason I got it for so cheap is because this was a smaller dealer who bought it at an auction (it was repossessed), and once they got it they realized there were a few small issues with it - the Nav wasn't working, the center speaker was blown, and there was a trim piece hanging loose on the driver's side A-pillar. These are all things that would be repaired for free under warranty, but the problem is that Lexus will only do warranty work for a end-user and not a dealership. So the dealer would've had to register it to a private party to get those things fixed, and in doing so they would've had to pay sales tax & registration which would be around $4,000.
So instead of going through the time, money, and hassle of getting everything fixed, only to probably get a few extra thousand dollars out of it, they decided to just sell it to me as-is for the exact price they paid for it at auction. He even showed me the invoice from the auction to show exactly what they paid for it. I think I got a great deal, and all of the issues were fixed by Lexus without question! =)

I've been on the search for an IS-F for a while now. Cheapest i've seen one was $36k. It had low miles too (~40k) but it sold so quickly I would have had to pick it up the same night i inquired about it. I just decided to drive my 250 till at least 70k miles (next summer for me) and then i'll check out the IS-F again and hopefully sell my 250 for one! I'm looking at 350's right now but I just can't seem to get over the IS-F....i'll probably hold out for the right deal!

I got mine for a little under 27k. It was in pretty bad shape exterior wise, but the interior and engine was sound. I have rebuild a couple of vehicles in the past, and knew some people that helped out.
In the end, I got allot of car for the money. But I took a risk when I decided to buy it. There could have been more issues buried inside that the dealer wouldn't have told me about. If you are ready to take a leap, and have a bit of cash saved just in case, then its the best way to buy. If I put mine next to my buddies 2010, mine now looks newer, and better kept.
What ever you decide, always do your homework, and be patient. I ended up finding mine in a tent sale at a mall, and no one was looking at it because of its issues. I used that to my advantage in the deal making process.
