Glad to see this thread cause the dealer I had an oil change at during a trip last week told me my pump was leaking and I needed to get it replaced but they didn't have one instock and I was leaving the next day. Guess I need to look how bad mine is and get it scheduled soon.

Dropped the car off today and 3 hours later, dealer called to say it was ready.
Is the water pump on the ISF really 2-3 hour job to remove and install?
Part numbers on the invoice:
16100-39506 (water pump)
00272-SLLC2 (super long life coolant)
Dealership service manager stated that they had serviced another ISF with the exact same issue. Hopefully, this one will last more than 44k miles.....

It is a pretty simple job as far as water pumps go.
Retail on this part is about $185 US and includes the gasket
Remove small inlet hoses, by-pass hose and lower rad hose - looks like 4 in total
Reverse to install.

Great Thread!!! Thanks for sharing...
I recently replaced my secondary fan blade & motor... I didn't notice and issues with water pump leakage..
I did a quck inspection last night in the areas shown and still didnt see any problems with dried fluid.
I'm going to try a take a closer look at both the air and drain holes soon..
Just to make sure there are no signs of problems.
My coolant bottle was sitting at "Low", so I also added about 6-8 ounces of the Toyota Long Life pink fluid.
Basically, to bring it right back to "Full"
(Make sure you check or adjust fluid on an over night cooled motor)
I guess its normal to lose about that much of fluid in over 2 years of operation and/or approx 35K miles...

Joe Z

Wow I am surprised the water pump has failed early. Some are saying 30K
Typically water pumps last until 75K or longer. It sounds like the 08-10 are affected and the 2011's have the newer version pump. Hopefully it will last until 75K

I wonder who manufacture's the Water Pump for Lexus ????
Can any of you guys that replaced, get a close look at the failed pump for stampings??
Seems to be some sort of random defect with the maker.
Especially if its leaking from the air and/or drain holes.
3 years is not a good life span for a pump... Should be lasting at least 90K miles...
(Under normal driving conditions )
