Quick tip, when you color sand or wet sand its physics. once you wet sand the surface of the paint (clear coat), you bring the angular clear coat to a more even parallel transition from paint to clear thus of caorse reducing imperfections, and reflectivity and clarity is immensely increased. (After I took physics and optics this actually pushed me to wet sand and spend money on a paint thickness gauge). After first initial wet sand I have about 40 hours plus in buffing to make sure each panel of every phase came out perfect. Last stage which is polishing creates the up most brilliance. I polish every two months bc with sf 4500 you remove so little clear and increases shine and jewels the surface that much more .

Wow, polishing every 2 months, you must have alot of time on your hands, lol. I only have time to do a quick sealant wax with the porter cable every 3 months.

I'll probably practice some wetsanding on my hood since it needs to be resprayed anyways that way if I mess up the paint it's no loss.

Here's a good overview/primer on wetsanding from Junkman. He always has good videos with excellent explanations. Also, not sure what kind of buffer you're using but if you're a more advanced detailer you may want to try a Rotary to knock out that orange peel.

He's a super nice guy in person too. Met him a few times when I was in the corvette world.

Nope no time, (with two boys under 2 yrs old, a traveling engineer, and completing my engineering degree) that calls for midnight polishing ..good for the soul. lol

I just picked up mine yesterday with little over 31k on it. Its comforting to see some of you guys with high mileage without any issues.

This is definitely good to know, yet not surprising. It is a Toyota, after all.

My 2008 is at 45k - mostly just sits in the garage.
